dart rate of fire issues

First Post
hey, i'm new here...first time i've DMed with a group of friends of mine...and i have, what may seem to a be a dumb question, but i don't know very much about dnd in the first place, except what i've picked up along the way. :D

now, say one has a level 2 ranger, proficient with darts. the rate of fire for darts is 3/1, and i speculate that a dart is a one-handed weapon.

my question for you all, is: could he effectively have a rate of fire of 6/1, because he has two-handed fighting? 3 darts in either hand? it seemed legit to me at first, but i'm not sure if it'd be "bending the rules"

just to note, we are playing 2nd edition, but i don't think that will make much of a difference. thanks for any help :D

i had originally just registered to ask this question...but i see the quest forums and stuff like that...perhaps i could map the progress in my quest for other people to critique/pull ideas from...and i could sure use some ideas myself!

peace

Short answer: No. Two-handed meelee fighting does not give one a greater rate of fire with missle weapons, although if the character chooses to use his "bad hand" to fire darts and is ambidextrous, there is no off-hand penalty for throwing the darts with that hand. If he wants to increase rate of fire, he will have to dual-class as a fighter, specializing in darts. (Assuming he is human).

And you might want to look at 3.5 D&D, since that would give a dart throwing ranger more options.
