D&D General DDB style site for Older Editions

Could probably be done under the SRD - there were a couple "fat client" character builders back in 3E, but unless WotC did it, you couldn't post WotC IP unless you set up some agreement with them (like Roll20 or such).

Speaking of which, doesn't Roll20 have tools for older D&D version emulations (OSRIC, OSR) and character builders included in that?

Failing that, there's still the old e-tools and (2E) core rules that could be dredged up and reused in some fashion?

You could do it as a retroclone (pick the one you like!), but if you wanted the actual text from the old D&D books you'd need to work with WotC to do it.
True.

I think it would be cool either way. I have been wanting to play older editions again but I also want new fancy tools to use with them. I still have e-tools and my 2e disks but I would sub to a modern site in an instant to have a DDB-like experience for older editions of D&D.

Have you by chance looked at HeroLab? They have an online/web version, but they also have a "classic" client that supports at least 3.5. Somebody may have made a DB for it for other rulesets, since the program itself is pretty much a configurable DB.

My knee-jerk reaction when I read this was "Yeah, that would be cool".
Then I started thinking about it...what would this older edition DDB site do? I have been to DDB, but I don't understand what it's used for outside of the forums.
I use it because I find it easier to read and find things than print books or pdfs.

Yes. I own the basic licenses and the PF1e stuff on it.

DDB is a character builder and rules compendium. The forum is incidental.
Aha! Thank you. The way people talk about DDB I was kinda expecting more.

It would be neat if they supported older editions. I'm sure the impact would be negligible, but it would bring some new traffic to their site. I would definitely support a site that did this sort of thing.
