Which is why everyone jumps at playing both of those classes. ;)
Clerics may be overpowered, but people still don't want to play bandaids :D As to bards, they are too weak as implemented, and they aren't even jacks of all trades. They should be replaced by something with bardic flavour but more in line with Beguiler mechanics (if they need to keep their magic) or something unique that has lots of songs and no magic (otherwise).

Actually I was thinking of bumping my hobgoblin ranger for a human rogue or cleric. I know RA thinks the Dragonheir is underpowered, but it seemed to fit w/my rogue concept. I thought I might prepare to take that route. The cleric would go mystic theurge. I was going to contemplate them a bit more on this vacation as my kids play on the beach & hopefully I'll have one (or more) all fleshed out by the time I return.

By the way, I'd love to play Forge of Fury, so if it doesn't get started soon, or if I can join a bit late, save me a place! I might use whichever of my PCs ideas best rounds out the group.

Yeah, the Dragonmarks have a lot of nice flavour, but they are basically a waste of one or more feats mechanically--you get what is usually a nonsequitur ability once a day that is within range of your party's caster as a spell anyway, rather than building on your character's own strengths. That said, would I still take one? Absolutely! For story and RP purposes :)

Newbie question here (I think I already know the answer)!

As stated, only 1st lvl PCs are allowed at this time. Is this ECL 1 PCs, or CL 1 PCs? It doesn't make sense in my brainpain to allow +LA races at the start, but then restrict starting PCs to 1st lvl.

Or am I overthinking this? :)

LA characters are allowed, but they can't be your level 1 character, so you can't submit them just yet. Just wait--that feature's coming soon!

ECL 1.

See it as you can have a (Race ECL + CL). For now, you can only have a total of 1. But after some time, you'll haev the possibility to have more than a character and they will start at 1, 2 and 3... so you'll be able to have a human lvl 1, an assimar lvl 1 and a drow lvl 1 (if those precise race are all allowed)... I think you see the picture.
