Pathfinder 1E Dexterity Bonus to Ac - and losing it

It's not as much as penalty, as much as being caught off guard.

so technically you loose a lot in the way of your Dex bonus, but ... you're off guard! High Dex does not guarantee that you're Spider Man or Yoda ... it just means when you're aware and in the zone, you're good. When you're caught unawares, you're just as average as everyone else.

If you're trying to avoid the dex penalty, ah well ... good luck, I just feel loosing your dex bonus is justified.

I think it would be nice if you could apply 1 point of your dex bonus to AC for every 5 ranks in Acrobatics/Climb skill while you are balancing/climbing. That seems like a good compromise between the system of trying to show that its harder to dodge and move while doing those activities, but still letting the very skilled and dextrous characters show off their dodging ability with enough ranks in the skill.
