d20 and d8.

Also, I have decided to declare undying enmity for the d10 for failing to be a Platonic solid. Which is, admittedly, a terrible reason.

This! Though i voted d20 and d4.... :P
And i actually surprised myself for doing so. Decades ago, before i ever lifted anything other then a d6 in anger, when i made platonic solids for fun.... if you asked me what my favorite solid was, i would have yelled dodecahedron and died fighting..... But something happened as the years went by. And maybe it was the tetra-shaped milk packages of my youth, or maybe the fabled 2d4 damage of the early gen hand and half swords..... but the d4 "grew" on me. Does it roll? No... but you can slide your palm underneath it as you drop it. Does it read as well as the others? Hells no! But reading its base is what makes it special! What about the d20? Well.... it's the warmth of your favorite least jinxed die. It's the shining 20 of the crit. It's the roundness and complete opposite of the d4, but it somehow feels like it completes the cycle. And that is why i love it!

1d10? Abhorrent! Non platonic solids have no right to exist!
1d6? Far too common but serviceable
1d8? A step in the right direction!
1d12? Like an old love.... it just won't go away....
1d4 and 1d20? I've already said it above!

On the one hand, I find myself wanting to believe this heart-warming story of how someone grew to love the ugly duckling that does not roll.

On the other hand, I find myself suspicious that you are a plant from BIG SHOE, lulling us into believing your lies so that we might purchase more of these monstrous caltrops, and will never be safe walking around our own houses in bare feet, as is our right as 'MURIKANS.

Let me ask you this- does this comment have soul, or sole?

Me thinks it has a lot of ether! :D

We all know the people who love D12s need to show their affection for it because it's such a worthless dice, while the useful dice are always there.

If they eliminated both the D4 and the D12 I am sure DnD would only get better!

I was pondering the possibilities of how wrong you were...

1. Your momma didn't raise you right.
2. You looked at a barbarian's hit points, and thought to yourself, "Self, I prefer weak and easy-to-kill."
3. You're one of those ... short sword fans. If you know what I mean.
4. Just in time for the holidays, you want to ruin the 12 Days of Christmas.
5. Every time you roll a d12, an angel gets its wings.
6. Another metric lover? Picard might not know how many lights there are, but there will always be TWELVE INCHES IN A FOOT!
7. You were confused by Twelve Monkeys, and thought, eh, Eight is Enough. Dick van Patten would have killed in the Bruce Willis role.
8. You never have to generate time; this is why you your characters are late for everything.
9. Too many D&D games start at 12 sharp and end at d20 dull.
10. If twelve is good enough to sentence someone to die, it's good enough for a die.
11. Because the people have spoken, and the people are never wrong. Except when they disagree with me.
12. Well, it's two more, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be rolling at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your rolls. Where can you go from there? Where?

1. I am quite certain this sentence is about as useful as a D12.
2. Barbarian hit points would be just fine on D10.
3. I am not sure anyone proficient in the English language is entirely sure what you mean.
4. I say this, again with quite some certainty, that nobody would shed a tear because they can no longer "roll for how many gold rings there are this year."
5. When Angelic Flight is required for something, I might concur.
6. There might be 12 inches in a Foot, however there are fewer countries who foolishly cling to the outdated Imperial scale.
7. I did like Ocean's Eleven, but again... I don't think I shall look to roll a dice to determine who gets added for the sequel.
8. Time would require a 24 sided dice to be accurately portrayed, so are you now suggesting we add a D24 to the mix?
9. They really don't. Conjecture should at least be interesting!
10. Civilisation no longer executes people. It's been decreed as no longer being Civil.
11. The people are quite often wrong. That's why you don't use that lifeline when playing for the big money on Who wants to be a millionaire?
12. Is it? I'm pretty sure it is only 2 more in Base Ten. So your final argument for a D12 is based on 10. Seems pertinent somehow!

I think this shall inspire me to begin a campaign to add a D36 1/2! Because if the D12 seems relevant, anything goes!
