Disappointing Fantastic Four movie news

I'm not too worried about directors. Ang Lee and Joel Schumacher had established action movie cred, and neither of their comic book films set the world on fire (though it does pain me to mention Lee and Schumacher in the same breath).

At least Ang did a good job of capturing the feel of the Hulk, schumacher on the other hand made a mockery of Batman.

I once read an interview by Schumacher who talked about the character. He was not a fan of either the comics or Tim Burton's films and had no idea of who the character actually was. He basically saw Batman as a rich guy who likes to play dress up and then have fun.

A line I saw on Sci-fi Wire:

IGN FilmForce went on to report that filming on Fantastic Four is set to begin in August, with location scouting already underway. Casting, the site added, is soon to start. IGN FilmForce further speculated that Story's participation signals that Fox and Marvel, which are joining forces to produce the film, are planning to take Fantastic Four down a more comedic path than other recent comic-book adaptations.

That always makes me worry!

I don't remember the comic based movie Bryan Singer did before X-men. Oh yeah, there wasn't one. Usual Suspects is one of my all time favorites, but Apt Pupil? I barely remember what this was about. Humor in action movies is essential. Just think of your favorite action movie and some of the best parts have some humor. Just as long as its not a musical... hmmm, that might have some potential.

And finally Latino Review broke word that Michael Chiklis (THE SHIELD) and Tim Robbins (MYSTIC RIVER) were being considered for the roles of Ben Grimm/The Thing and Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. The Chiklis casting scoop was also confirmed by Variety.

What do you think of this casting?

Ya never know. Who would have suspected that Brian Singer would make a good X-Men movie on the heels of the Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil, which were completely different kinds of movies?

And I think Robbins could definately be credible as Dr. Doom, frankly.

FF broke all the rules when it first came out forty three years ago. It began the Marvel Universe. Call it the 60's equivalent of Astro City. FF's always been about the lives of four people. A family. It's waffled away from that, time to time, but that's still the core of the book. FF has always been at its best when exploring that.

If they make this film as a comedy, they might as well release it straight to video as far as I'm concerned. I might rent it and rip it, but I'd never pay for it. Making FF as a comedy makes as much sense to me as having Hulk II be a musical.

Sir (though he may not have been at the time) Ian McKellen a camp Nazi war criminal in a Stephen King thiller. But that'snot important right now.

Ugh. From the director of "Barber Shop"?

Now, what was that flick directed by some guy who did muppet porn and splatter movies? :D

Warwick Davis as Galactus

Best. Casting. EVAR.
Better than Samuel L Jackson as Dumbledor...
