D&D 5E Divine Sight vs. Detect Evil

I haven't gotten my 5E PHB and the Basic Rules haven't been updated with PHB content yet, but I was hoping someone who's got access could give me their insight here:

I understand that Detect Evil has been replaced (as a paladin power and maybe as a spell generally) with a more focused Divine Sight. What does the new ability actually do and does it resist being the "spot villain" power that so many players IME really wanted it to be?

I've got a paladin in my 3E/C&C campaign who uses it constantly, which is annoying, although a few Lawful Neutral antagonists and the like kept it from being really problematic. I've never much liked the ability, though, and felt very clunky, as not every game world has Evil as an elemental Capital E force.

From what I've heard:

1) It only spots fiends and undead - the really nasty supernatural evil stuff. It might also pick up evil clerics of evil deities, but definitely not your normal day-to-day villains.
2) It's limited by usage per day. I think it's something like 1 + Charisma modifier, or something.

Thanks. That is improved. Even if I don't go to 5E, I may steal that.

You can detect celestials, fiends, and undead (and know that they are one of those things) within 60 feet, and yeah, it's 1 + CHR mod uses per long rest. One weird change from the playtest is that it doesn't work on something that has full cover. So no detecting through walls or doors. That seems a bit odd, you can only really use it on something you've already encountered. And I think most of those are easy to figure out on sight (vampires and disguised devils being the outliers).

I think I'll house rule the cover rule out.

It takes an action to use. For the next round, you know the location and type of any celestials, fiends, or undead within 60'.

It is, indeed, Cha mod +1 per day uses.

(Edit: D'oh! Way of Shadow'd!!)
