Small groups of high hit point melee monsters would also take the spotlight off the warmage in a hurry. At 6th level, the party should be able to handle a 3rd level troll barbarian with his high stats in con and dex. Give him lightning reflexes and improved toughness and that warmage will be wishing he had Ray of Enfeeblement or Haste or Displacement--the kinds of things that the rest of the party would find a lot more useful than just magic missiling or lesser acid orbing the troll. (Particularly since lesser acid orb would have trouble hitting when the troll was in melee and had cover from the PCs he would be fighting).
A lower level warmage with a good spellcraft on the other side, could counterspell everything except his high level stuff. (Or better yet, ready an action to disrupt his spells with a magic missile--2d4+2 plus warmage edge and extra edge would make a reasonably difficult concentration check for a 6th level caster). An evil cleric or bard could ready an action to cast silence on the point in space next to him when he begins casting a spell. (Automatic disruption and he needs to move around until he figures out where he can get out of the silence. If it's a close quarters battle, that may not be possible without moving up to the front line). If he's using Hail of Stones, since it's a 1 round spell, they wouldn't even need to ready.
Another option is to use battlefield shaping magics. Even a first level caster could force out of the picture by casting obscuring mist at close quarters. No vision=no reliable ranged attacks. Since your party is sixth level, however, fog cloud, stinking cloud, wall of ice, wall of fire, solid fog, and sleet storm are all available and would all pre-empt his blasting until he managed to get line of sight to see where the bad guys were.
If you just want to kill him, of course, Evard's Black Tentacles would be the way to do it, but that would hose your whole party so you might not want to do it.
