Does it really matter what world an adventure is set on? Assuming other DMs Guild-approved settings are available in the League, I can already pop between, say, the Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Ravnica and Theros over the course of a month, can't I?

As long as the game is otherwise AL-approved, why does it matter where it's set?

This kind of thing is part of why Adventurers League seems like too much of a hassle to get into, as a non-participant, as much as I'd love to be able to do pick-up games at stores and conventions periodically. I don't need some random DM rejecting my otherwise approved character because they have the wrong stamp in their passport.
The fluff matters too. Which ties into the settings.

It’s not as bad as that. It’s exceptionally rare and I’ve never seen it except for a case where the raw game rules weren’t followed.

But I’ve run and played in excellent AL areas so your mileage may vary.

Still, I’m not trying to convince you, to each their own.

I don’t run AL games much anymore anyway.

AL is the official league created by WotC.
It's just a large game with It's own table rules: and as you say, it is pushed by WotC, so obviously it will encourage usage of the current books.

Doesn't mean the new and old books cannot work together at home. AL is a special case not the "official rules".

Why so I do the Bastion turn?
1. Bastions are in the DMG so it should be up to the DM. Yes, I am an AL DM but.
2. This is player facing. It may be great fun for player, but I now have to do paperwork before or after the session for each player. Double check their maps and orders.
3. It is time suck due to 2.
4. I think it is silly and stupid to just give out a stronghold at level five.
5. Doing paperwork on things I am not a fan off and not getting paid.
6. it is a minigame I have no interest in.

1, 4, and 6 are all the same reason (As a DM you don't like Bastions). 2, 3, and 5 are all the same reason (they're a time suck). You're basically saying "I don't like them as a DM, and it's a time suck."

Which OK, I get that. But why would you encourage others to boycott it?

Also it looks like there will be a channel on discord for AL players to take bastion turns or get help with doing them.

I think this will fail in the long term. Session time is precious already and folks will be prone to skip it at session time then eventually skip it altogether.

Probably, on both sides of the screeb: but if a player is really keen on doing it, I would think it would be kinda awkward if the DM were to flatly refuse. Maybe a problem with the guidance, but thst is what some people will go in expecting now.

Which will also increase the AL dm burnout. When I ran AL at conventions I was already pushing the limits, and I was a super dedicated uber AL dm.
