ok

what evidence do you have that this will be the case?

Or every other vtt working like this?

It would be unlikely that they’d completely abandon the way it’s been done for ten years just in the off chance that someone wants entirely bespoke minis for their monster manual.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding—you think that if you buy the 1dnd monster manual on dndbeyond, that will come with all the 3d models for the vtt? There won’t be any extra charge or bundle to get those models?

I'd assume that if I subscribe to the VTT - I'm assuming it will likely not be bundled with D&D Beyond, although, there might be a subscription where you get both, that it will come bundled with the 3d models for every book you buy. Yes. Of course it will. It would be utterly useless otherwise.

Now, you are going to have to buy the Monster Manual (to use that example) for the VTT. But, maybe you only have to buy it in one system.

Or quite possibly, you pay a nominal fee to have both.

But, in any case, you would buy the Monster Manual for the VTT. Why would you bother buying it for D&D Beyond if you're using the VTT? D&D Beyond is for table top play.

I'm pretty certain that it'll require a dndbeyond. But I don't really know.

Because some people run more than one game?

Then, well, you'd probably need to get the D&D Beyond sub and then the VTT sub.

Thinking about it , what's in my mind is far too complicated. That won't work.

Naw, it'll be the way VTT's work right now. YOu buy the book on D&D Beyond and (presuming that the VTT comes bundled with the D&D Beyond Sub) you'll get the book and the models for the VTT. Otherwise, it just wouldn't work.

Again, why are people assuming that the models are this huge expense? These are going to be static 3d models, similar to something you'd see on Heroforge. These aren't going to be fully animated models that react to attacks. THAT might be something you'd have to pay for. But a 3d tabletop that doesn'T come with models to use for monsters isn't functional. I really doubt they'd put something out there that doesn't actually work.
