D&D 5E Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

Blackwarder (or anyone else willing to field a question)

What does the Rogue Modron look like? I have a player who may want to play one as a PC, so I'm wondering what a PC version might get. Thanks! :)

There isn't a picture of a rogue Modron, sadly. Just pick which kind he is, and go with that. These Modrons are the ones used in the book.

Ha! I didn't mean literally "look like". I meant how do its stats look?

I'm trying to reverse engineer a "rogue modron" PC race.... Is there a rogue modron stat block? If not, any traits/actions/resistances/etc. common to all modrons? Or, barring that, what does a Quadrone have?

Ah.

In that case a couple of posts from a very similar thread might be helpful. :p

They can choose their own alignment and lose the immunity to compulsion trait. Modrons should be as PC-race-able as any of the standard MM critters (orcs, lizardmen, etc.). They range from CR 1/8 to CR 2, with the main difference being number of attacks and stats. They all get truesight, which may or may not be an issue. Pentadrones also get a recharging paralysis gas.

I was a little surprised by how low the CRs were, too. Looking at the stats, I'd probably go +2 Dex, +1 (Con or Str). That fits the modron stats the best. But that plus truesight would be great. You could add poison spray at 2nd level or hold person 1/day at 5th to mimic the paralytic spray ability, but that wouldn't be necessary at all.

That's about it, really. :)

Thaumaturge Thanks, mate!

Yeah, Truesight is very very powerful... let's you see in magic darkness, see invisible creatures and objects, automatically detect visual illusions and succeed on saves against them, perceive the true form of a shapechanger or creature transformed by magic, and see into the Ethereal.

By comparison, see invisibility is a 2nd level spell which grants just the ability to see invisible creatures and objects, and see into the Ethereal.

Tieflings get access to a 2nd level spell - darkness - once they reach 5th level. So rogue modron PCs with some version of Truesight would need to break the trait down into smaller chunks and distribute them across levels.

Anyhow, thanks again! Food for the mental mill!

Apologies if this has been answered, but what damage resistances/immunities and condition immunities do modrons have, and how does the Resist Compulsion trait work?

Oh, and their truesight 60 or 120 ft.?

Truesight 120 ft

The modron can't be compelled to act in a manner contrary to its nature or it's instructions.

No damage resistance or immunities.

I'm pretty torn on the monsters in this ed. I like how simple they are, it's great for a GM to quickly stat out a unique monster. But I very much dislike how similar every mob is because of that simplicity. I'm not asking for 3e 2-page BBEG stats or 4e 30 different kobolds but some diversity is helpfully. Currently every dragon is basically identical accept their breath weapon and lair.. that's boring. The idea I see on here 'it's simple so you can diversify them in play' is a cop-out. I shouldn't have to house rule a dragon fight to make it different or interesting from the last one.

Simplicity with diversity is all I ask. :)

I am almost afraid to ask this, but could anyone check what the racial origin of Minotaurs ended up being?

Then I'm almost afraid to answer.

"Born into the mortal realm by demonic rites...Minotaurs are the dark descendants of humanoids transformed by the rituals of cults...unknown to all but their highest-ranking leaders, these mystery cults are creations of the demon lord Baphomet...can breed true with one another, giving rise to an independent race..."
