Doom of the Savage Kings

The head of the Hound remains mostly intact and can be taken as a trophy to prove that it has been killed.

When Lizt tests the rope it is still securely tied off at the top.

The pool remains hot but doesn't resume boiling. It resembles a black, glass mirrror and those with some skill at magics recognize it is still a potent source of power. Surrounding the pool are the decayed remnants of offerings cast into the pit centuries past.

Tender helps carry along the head, "Ack. This thing smells worse than the entire living body. Is that even possible?"

Boral and Kurl take a closer look before departing the pool, first at the offerings and then at the pool itself, trying to guess whether the source if more divine or arcane.

Hank checks everywhere for a container to take a sample of the pool's contents

Franko's tears drip as he looks into the pool, "In a way, they are in there"

Homer just scampers up the rope not wanting to stay in the fetid mess any longer then he has to.

Lizt helped Tender manage the rope, then started climbing after him.

Gratien lingered by the pool. Like Hank, Boral, and Kurl, the Elf hunted for anything interesting to take with him. If he found nothing in the pool or its edge, he turned his attention to the little artifacts that malingered left behind by the pool's edge.

Franko takes out a vial and pours it on the ground (Holy water) and uses it to peer through. He takes his breath in sharply with a wide grin, "Look Hanky! a bug!"

Hank sees his friend pointing at the water, though there is nothing. He does, however take the vial and dips it in the liquid. "Yup, I got it right here" He says with a wink.

He leans over to Lizt and says, "There is no bug." Then stoppers the vial up.

Homer climbs to the top and stands guard, his unbloodied swords not sure what may come.

The shore surrounding the pool is littered with broken, rusted weapons. Scattered amongst those valueless fragments are dozens of small pieces of jewelry of silver and gold (value: 312 gold total). Also found are a few unique pieces: a small bronze buckler, green with the patina of age; a wavy blade inlaid with silver; a helm sculpted in the shape of a dragon; and short length of twisted gold chain.

The pool's otherworldly nature is evident to all with any magical talent. Kurl finds some undefined quality of the pool particularly repulsive. A longer period of study may reveal more of the pool's nature to any user of magic but Hank remembers some fragment of wisdom he once read warning about staring long into the abyss.

Homer and Lizt find everything is much the same above. Dark has fallen though with the pool no longer throwing off black steam the gloom is beginning to break up.

Kurl says, "There are some items of value here. Let's take them along before heading out. I'm looking forward to leaving this uncomfortable place."

Boral agrees and helps pick up the jewelry, buckler, blade, helm and gold chain. "We can split this all up later, but we best head out before the weird magic here does something unpleasant."

Tender simply grunts before climbing up the rope. Once on top he helps the others over the top one by one.

Gratien eyed the wavy blade with interest as it was picked up and stowed for the journey. The Elf was second last to climb out, leaving the dubious honor of being last to Franko.

Up top, an impatient Lizt thrummed her fingers on the pommel of her short sword. "After the Jarl, then? Can any of you track?"

Gratien nodded. "I know the ways of the forest and its beasts. Perhaps humans are no different?"

OOC: Gratien will attempt to locate and follow the tracks of the huntsmen.
