Door to Nowhere

OOC: I misunderstood. I thought we had visited more than two tents

Taylar says in Maldrog, "For some strange reason I thought we had explored more than we had. Let's go to the tavern tent and I'll try again to find some friendly allies."

Season: Drenching. Day: 50
GM: The point of the mundane information is to try to create an ambiance for the area, but I am never able to accurately convey what I picture in my head. The Kingdom of West Cove is a nominal community. The Eastern Oasis of the Ka’ard Taerm is a paranormal community. At the completion of this mission, the characters should be of paranormal status and this new location can be used to host other missions.

I also forgot to mention that the Kozzogs said they could easily forge replacements for the bludgeons of Taylar using harder alloys, though the cost was yet more than the party could even consider.

Having already dismissed the phenomenon of there being no smell inside the butchering tent, the party is again amazed at a paranormal occurrence when stepping inside the tavern tent. Percussion music, which could not be heard outside of the tent, is being made by a group of drummers in the center of the tent. The music is lively and even a bit loud. The activity within this tent is a dramatic change from those whose purpose is business.

There is not much for furniture, which makes sense for the lack of materials in a desert. Much of the sand is covered with thick rugs, and the great variety of people are enjoying food and drink while reclining on large pillows. There are even people dancing to the music in the area around the drummers. The rhythm is pleasing and creates a sense of happiness. Unfortunately though, this music will make it impossible to eavesdrop. Ongoing conversations are conducted mouth to ear with the peoples faces almost touching. There is a greater diversity of people within the tent than the party has ever before seen.

There are various servers wandering the through seated guests, and the party sees that there are unoccupied piles of pillows that they could commandeer for themselves and be waited upon. The servers are all graceful and attractive, though being of various tribes. The quietly observant and standing armed guards are all Pelimonrae. Their blue headgear being wrapped around their necks.

As the party finds a place to sit and everyone’s eyes adjust to the dimmer light within the tent or vision is mystically augmented, several small groups of people are recognized as never having been encountered peaceably, including a small party of Deviards and a party of Evipaun, not too distant. The Evipaun appear to be a bit drunk.

After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to communicate with servers, one arrives who can speak Markidian, though she is Centrin. For six measures of salt the whole party can get food and drink and have a waterskin refilled.

Astarte points to the group of Evipaun and says to Taylar: "Maybe they are the people you should befriend? They're drunk and who knows you may learn from them without reveling anything. We can't be sure if they're exactly the culprits we are searching for, but if not, they still can lead us to them."
She will order just water to drink it now if Taylar agrees she'll go to talk with the Evipauns with him. If he doesn't wanna speak with them at all, she'll come to them with Plumeir or alone.

19:oops:

As Taylar glances at the Evipaun his companions can see his jaw clench and his hands ball into fists. He smiles as he makes an attempt to relax and replies in Maldrog to Astarte, "I do not think I am a good enough actor to keep my anger hidden. We should not approach or pay any attention to these Evipaun at all to maintain our advantage of surprise. We cannot assault them here or the Pelimonrae will become involved, and I do not think we will win that fight. We should be patient and follow the Evipaun when they leave. Drunk, they are less likely to notice us, and we still have the children to find."
Taylar will order drink and food and have his water refilled. He will sit to where he can keep watch on the Evipaun and discreetly observe their behavior. He will make an attempt to be jovial, even flirting with the waitress. He will try to appear like a normal tavern customer and not a hunter that has his prey in sight.

Plumeir agrees with the wisdom of Taylar and offers a suggestion to Astarte. "I know you and Taylar can both do this trick where it makes it more difficult for people to notice you. I can only camouflage my appearance. You can probably stroll by them to see if they hold anything that might indicate that they are slavers. I doubt any of us could understand any of their private conversations. We will have to look for clues."

"After that come back and sit. We can all eat and follow them when they leave."

Season: Drenching. Day: 50
Astarte: 57(observe) + 31(tuning) + 50(d100) = 138
Plumeir: 61 + 72 = 133
Taylar: 47 + 34 + 148 = 229
Deciding upon the cautious course of action, Astarte rises to her feet and makes a circuitous walk around the tent. She passes many groups and acknowledges those who looked up at her. This being a normal course of action within the crowded structure, no one thinks anything significant of it. Many new arrivals walk about the tent to see if anyone else is recognized. Finally moving around where the Evipaun are celebrating, Astarte cannot understand anything being said, and the Evipaun are quite loud. Just the manner of their actions indicates bravado, and then one of them produces a small article of clothing, waves it around to his comrades, who all laugh. The clothing belongs to a child. Astarte notices two others hold similar items. It seems most likely that these are the kidnappers being sought.

Unrelated to the current endeavor, Taylar notices that a solitary figure in another part of the tent seems to be paying particular attention to the Evipaun. He also notices that several of the wait staff have a brand on the inside of their left forearm. It is not really possible, in the dim lighting, to distinguish much about the solitary figure, except that he is male, nor is it possible to discern the brand, but it is not limited to gender or tribe. Some of the staff are not branded. The Centrin woman who is currently tending the party is.

The Centrin woman who is currently tending the party . . . brand
Still playing the buffoon, Taylar takes a big drink and allows his words to slur a bit before asking the Centrin server, "I see that brand on your arm. Is that a mark of your tribe or something?"
. . . a solitary figure in another part of the tent seems to be paying particular attention to the Evipaun.
He informs the Investigators about the solitary figure and looks for a reason to draw closer to that table to get a better look at the person.

When Astarte is back, she'll tell the waitress the weird and unbelievable story about her life including her traumatic experiences. "Quia de ultimis 5 circulis numquam alicui, nec illis hoc dixi." she looks at her friends. "Nunc, mea misera puella/femina [depending on her age], dic mihi, quaenam hanc turpem notam tibi fecit? Quomodo huc adfers? Unde venis?"
"Since about last 5 cycles I never told this to anyone, even to them." she looks at her friends. "Now, my poor girl/woman [depending on her age], tell me, who made this ugly mark to you? How did you got here? Where are you from?"
When the servant is gone, Astarte will tell her comrades how she just saw the Evipauns waving a small garments like a trophies. "I think it's them." she finishes with shaking voice, barely holding back her indignation.
He .. looks for a reason to draw closer to that table to get a better look at the person.
After a deep breath she proposes to simply approach the man, then to proposes him something to eat or/and to drink and during the following conversation kindly ask him: Why is he watching these people?
