Double Magic Item

Is there a magic item anywhere, 3rd party publishers, WoTC, your grandma's diary, that acts as two weapons? Like a pair of magic daggers that are only magical when wielded together, or a flail and longsword that do the same thing? I'm trying to create a magical pair of shields that work in tandem, and want a baseline to work from (My reason is largely flavor; I want to use the Item Familiar rules from UA with my two shields, but I don't want it to be just one, but the two together).

I'd consider that to be two separate items, each of which has a limitation: the powers only work when the other item is wielded. Like most limitations that would reduce the market price of the items-- say 10% as a first guess.

Note that having such a limitation on two shields would be rather silly, because you don't get much benefit from wielding more than one shield at a time. (A shield bonus to AC does not stack with another shield bonus.)

I've seen some items that have some powers, but only all potential if you have all of them.

You forget all those dual-shield wielding fighters that were the rave amongst power-gamers some time ago.

Are you talking about the Heroes of Might and Magic items in Dragon 314?

And I don't remember them at all. What was their big deal?

Shield bonuses not stacking: ..... ...... dangit While that doesn't make physical sense, you're right...

No, not specifically. I recall such items mainly from Computer Games: Set Items from Diablo 2, and there's one Set in NWN:HotU.

But I think there are a couple of Artifacts in d20 that work that way (Hand and Eye of Vecna, vor example).

Hmm, seems like videogames are the only place to find these :D

And well...wow. If an artifact is the only thing I have to go off of to gauge power levels, I think I'm screwed ;)

either the mini's handbook or complete warrior has an item that is a set of rings that provide some benefit.

From what I can tell they are way overpriced for the benefit they give (while the benefit is nice they are still very expensive and take up both ring slots!)

So there are items out there like this. Oh, and the rings do act as a psuedo weapon sometimes..lol.. in a strange sort of way.

Maybe even those magic rings could work like this. I think they cost 50k and you put something in one ring and it comes out the other. Place one ring on the wall of a volcano somewhere and toss your ring over reduced opponents. Laugh maniacally.
