Dragon Wars (D-Wars) DVD - what was I thinking?

OK -- so my search-fu is weakened and I don't have the strength to find out if there's already a thread about this.

I got the Dragon Wars (D-Wars) DVD in my blockbuster delivery subscription the other day, and when I put it in my movie queue, I read reviews and knew that it would be campy B-movie stuff, but maybe the CG would win me over. I am easy to please when it comes to movies, and even more with DVD since its not expensive or much hassle, but jeez....

This one was a waste of my mail carriers time.

The dialog was unquestionably bad, the story had holes everywhere, the CG was OK, but the creatures' reactions and responses were utterly unbeliveble and the BBEG was like something that a bad 50's sci-fi cheese movie director would be embarrassed about.

Did anyone like it at all? I feel dirty even admitting I saw it... must go wash....

Off topic, but was that any good? It looks cheesy but not necessarily in a bad way.
I liked the CGI dragons and other reptiles. That's what i came for and I was satisfied.

The evil warriors were a touch low budget and there were some cheezy "attacking with fireworks" parts. Another audience member made a 'Power Rangers' comment that was not wholly inappropriate. The General reminded me of Domodar with no lipstick and a deeper voice.

The plot was a laugh riot for me and my friends. We were cracking up about the old man tricking a parent so he could be 'alone' with the young boy.

Draco-cobra was quite dumb at times though i think he looked cool.

The Military vehicles vs the dragons and reptiles were awesome fights

A heavy does of Deux Ex Machina
takes out the evil warrior horde

American audiences will not like the ending.
Fate
is upheld and the girl
dies as she was destined
to.

[sblock=Da Dragons!]Large size reptilian steeds with a a typical dinosaurs posture
Large size European fireball spitting dragons
Gargantuan / Colossal morbidly obese Dewbacks carrying rocket platforms
Colossal+ Heavy scaled cobras
Colossal+ Oriental dragon[/sblock]

Fairly good CGI, the only depiction of a Chinese dragon I think I've ever seen in a film, and utterly terrible acting and, well, everything else :)

Bad acting, dialogue, plot, directing, editing (whole movie had a utter lack of packing), but good CGI. The showdown in LA with helicopters facing off against dragons almost saved it. But definitely a rental.

Well, this American thinks that's awesome. I'm gonna have to give it a go. :p

I'll just be sure to not set my expectations too high.

Thanks.

The combat between dragons and modern equipment was fantastic, they just have done the whole movie on that. Everything else, was bad.
Except that the Dragon's dinosaur tank creatures with the rocket launchers was kinda silly. There were scenes where the dino-tanks appeared to be a block away and launched the magic-rockets in a trajectory for a target 1/2 mile away... and the tanks started bouncing from being hit.

IMHO, that part was just as lame. I don't know.... maybe I was in a spoiled mood already from the other parts of the movie and I didn't give it the full appreciation it deserved.

the 'modern equipment vs. dragonish critters' was definitely the best part of the movie..

but..

why the hell would the US army decide to let the enemy walk all the way into the city and then fight it out with innocent people all over the place? Wouldn't they meet them somewhere outside the city and fight out in the open? In the movie, the tanks and APCs just sat there and shot back. That's not the way you use armor... you 'shoot and scoot', fire and move, and look for hull down terrain all the time... I think the movie would have been even better if they'd have done that... tanks firing on the move, helicopters and flying dragons tangling out in the open skies... and if they'd have stayed out in the open, the US could have brought fighter jets to bear as well, slamming those big fat lizards with the rocket launchers (a few AtG missiles would have done well for them)....

Logic goes with this movie like tomato juice with ice cream.

Uh, because it's much awesomer see the army fighting dragons in the middle of a city with innocent people all around than out in the middle of nowhere. Duh!
