Drinking at the Game Table?

Yes, 'cause it's never been a problem. In fact, I've been meditating for a while the idea of playing a RttToEE game where every time you take a hit or fail a save, you have to take a swig, and every time you die you have to drain the glass. It should be fun!

My group treats D&D similar to a poker night or going out on the golf course or any other event you might do as a group.

Do we drink, well yes sometimes, not all the time mind you but every once in a while a glass of scotch or a beer might be consumed.

Do we drink heavily? No I can only recall that 3 glasses of scotch were consumed by a single individual over about 7 hours, and he was no where near intoxicated, and that only happened once.

I allow it but don't personally drink - makes me logy and surly, plus it interferes with another relaxing pastime I prefer as well.

Everybody else generally has a beer or three. We have one friend who is "discouraged" from coming any more because he constantly aboozes.

Depends a lot on the group. My every-other Saturday Champions game has two minors playing in it - no drinking. However, whenever me and my ex-roomates get together for our infrequent game sessions...

In the past yes, but not anymore for a handful of reasons. For one thing, the shortest drive home for my gaming group is around 20 miles. For another thing, we play at the home of a married couple that are both non-drinking Mormons. For yet aonther reason, I think that I am the only member of the gaming group that does drink. Now, if things were different such as a different location, a designated driver and such, sure it would be allowed.

Statement about permitting/denying activity.

Caveat that that reasonable behavior doesn't cause problems.

Warning that excessive behavior in question can cause problems.

[Optional Anecdote about problem/humerous story about behavior.]

I played Quake 2 against a friend and he was creaming me. I started drinking and, by my sixth or seventh beer, I was wiping the floor with him. He was pissed and wondered how I was doing it. He knew I wasn't cheating cuz he was sitting right next to me. Apparently, I get better as I start to get drunk. ;)

This is a phenomenon I call "The Beer Curve". Some skills increase dramatically with the first few beers and then drop off precipitously after a few (or a lot) more. I noticed it first while playing weekly pool games during happy hour. Any activity that becomes easier when you are more relaxed and confident seems to follow The Beer Curve.

On topic: I allow beer at my games. I serve homebrewed beer and my players usually bring a sixpack. Everyone has to drive, but we usually only drink a beer or two during our 4 hour game.
