Drow - good for anything?

Remove the SR and IMHO the drow are fine with LA +1.

But that would make them boring. IMHO there's beauty in the race mechanic since these strong abilities explain to me why drow are useless. They just can't live up against other races. So they are strong and cool and evil and stuff, but everyone else bashes them for good.

That's their place in the world. Now excuse me, I have to bash some drowluvas.

our house rule is pick one: +2 con(total of +0 con) and +2 LA, or -2 con, and +1 LA.

I have seen ideas on dropped the SR for +1 LA, but aside from the abilities scores, which are good, aside from the brutal con hit, the SR is the only ability. Unless you count Darkvision, I dont, and I surely wouldnt remove an ability as obvious as Darkvision

I've got a player planning to play one in my game. I let him drop the LA altogether if he spent a feat and dropped the SR. May not be totally balanced statswise, but I intend to make it balanced due to roleplaying considerations (prejudices etc).

I think that sounds fair. A feat and no SR, the stats are probably better than most feats, but, the prejudices and rp concerns may make up for it, and, he gets -2 con, which sucks.

Remember the D Modules?

In the long- forgotten days when the largely unheard-of drow inhabited a portion of the subterranean world, and the subterranean world did not extend all over the place.

<sigh>

Greyhawk made sense. There is a reason why the Forgotten Realms are eventually forgotten (the first incarnation and its first edition made more sense than the hogwash it became). Drowsiness seeps in everywhere... yawn!

You mean, he has a normal elf and can take a feat that gives him +2 to Int and +2 to Cha? I want such a feat!!! :D

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he'll be playing a bard. That should more than balance him :)

What would people give up to reduce a drow LA to LA +1? That may be a solution for future supplements or house rules?

Inspired by this thread, I just came up with a (sort of) LA +0 version. I posted it over in House Rules.
