Druids and Awakened Animals Question

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I can't seem to do a search through the forum. Anyway, I've heard from a few sources that if a Druid casts Awaken on an Animal Companion, they have to have the Leadership feat to keep them. It's supposedly in the MotW. I've never seen that rule. Does someone have an official on that? I don't have my MotW as I lent it to a friend.

Under the leadership feat it talks about special cohorts. So, I think having an awaken animal as a cohort or even as followers should be fine. I've done it in my game and it worked fine.

MOTW says that they are still counted at Animal Companion, even though the increased HD will probably put you over your limit, you can still keep them, just not get new companions until you are back under your limit.

Actually according to MOTW, as long as the druid treats the awakened animal well, it remains her animal companion. Even if the awakened animals HD exceed her limit for animal compainions, it is still her companion though she may not acquire anymore animal companions.
