D&D 5E DungeonScape Possibilities

Yesterday on Twitter I asked the DungeonScape people if the basic rules will be in the app. There answer was that yes it will but in a different format.

That got me thinking. What if the when you download the app it comes with the core three books already on the bookshelf but only the basic rules are activated and you have to buy the Ebook to see the rest of the content.

Then I was thinking if they can modularize the books like that then can you customize the books after you buy them? So what I am thinking is you buy the PH and the go through and uncheck the items in the book you don't want to use for that campaign (I.e. Select the races, classes, an subclasses you want to use, whether to use feats, etc.).

Then when new content is released it would show up as an option to include in your PH Ebook. One example would be the death domain in the DMG. Once you buy the DMG then the Death domain is available to add you your PH. I suppose you could also select from multiple rule options in the DMG like firearms, or alternate rules options such as alternate skill systems.

Then when you customize your PH as a DM then you can export these settings to the players in your campaign and it would create a version of your PH on their app. Of course they would only have access to content that they purchased. So maybe the Death domain would be listed as an option in their PH but they could only see the details if they purchase the DMG.

Then this PH could sync with the in-app character builder and only show you options that are available.

I am intrigued by the possibilities of this new app and can't wait to see it.

These are some great ideas. I'd be surprised if any of them were already implemented, but there is certainly no reason they couldn't be if there were enough demand. I might be a separate feature in the "Forge" though, something like Custom Books. And you could pick which book you want your character builder to use for a given character. One critical element, though, would be probably be the cooperation of the content creators in formatting the books in such a way to explicitly allow for this. Certainly doable, and maybe doable by DS even without specific tags or extra data from the content creators, but easier with.
