High elves make really good eldritch knights. their racial stats mesh perfectly and it is the rue elven archetype. Elves where not origanally archetyped as wizards, they where the first gishes.

It gets even better. A dwarven Barbarian eventually gets faster movement (35') which isn't affected by armor and by 4th level can take the Heavy Armor feat that gives them Damage Reduction equal to their Constitution bonus. That combined with the raging giving Resistance to Bludgeoning/Piercing/Slashing damage is sick. With your 18 Constitution you get hit for 10 damage, which gets dropped to 5 because of rage, then gets dropped to 1 because of your plate armor.

Barbarians don't get heavy armor. Also Plate Armor is super expensive.

Good question here, what is the order of operations for damage taking?

Is it:

10 / 2, then -4 = 1?

Or 10 - 4 = 6 / 2 = 3?

Barbarians explicitly can't benefit from rage, and don't get their fast movement, while wearing heavy armor. That doesn't change just because they gain proficiency in it.

Sorry. :heh:

I've just been re-reading the section on dwarves in the Basic Rules. Not only do they get +2 Con, but also an extra +1 HP per level. Coupled with the ability to move better in armour this seems a huge boost in fighting power. If you're going for a strength-based fighter, why would you choose another race?

1) Flavor, for starters.

2) How about a +1 to ALL SIX ability stats, or a free feat that you otherwise won't get until 4th level? That's pretty tempting.

So...we finally get to an edition where wizards can cast in full plate....but a barbarian can't get angry wearing chain mail?
