You just picked it up in Hastings? Where?!?! (And more importantly, is that Hastings, MN ?) I live right next door to Hastings and have been salivating over picking up Tekumel 2.0 - uh, I mean, "Eberron" for days! I can't wait! I'm desperate! Please tell me where I can buy a copy for 30% off!

Ozmar the Impatient :)

It would be the Hastings store in Lewiston, Idaho. And they had a healthy stack of them. It was nice to see the merchandise up in the front of the store as due to the Book of Erotic Fantasy and the Book of Vile Darkness all of the rpg material is in the back under lock and key and you have to ask for assistance when buying something. It is almost embarassing. Way to encourage more people to buy rpg books!

Hmmmm. A new day and still no denial of my Eberron-Aliens-Elvis-Clone post on page one of this thread.
WHAT? You're still alive? I thought for sure the WotC Dino-Ninja Squad would have got you by... Er, that is, no, there's nothing to your theory at all.

The important thing is that you'll never be able to spot the alien mind control messages printed throughout the book without a pair of our special glasses.

hellbender: I agree about the snippets in Dragon not really selling me on the campaign setting. I think they botched the marketing a bit, and lead with their weakest stuff, which was a mistake. Personally, all that the first article did for me was tick me off ("What do you mean this got chosen instead of my settings?! Blasphemy!"). I didn't really start getting interested until I read about the Artificer and the Warforged. Then, I went to this link and read a bunch of quotes from Mr. Baker, gleaned from various message boards, about Eberron. Let me tell you, that got me far more excited about the setting than any of the Dragon articles did. In fact, I just ordered it today.
Thank you for the link! Not to hijack the thread too much, but I agree heartily. The periodical articles left something to be desired and were not all that helpful, but the actual book is very nice. The artwork is slick and the world as a setting is put together very well. I might not run a complete Eberron game, but there will be elements involved certainly.

Which is why I was puzzled when someone compared it to Kingdoms of Kalamar, which is pretty "un-weird" as settings go.

...is nowhere near "the worst fantasy setting you can imagine." Rather, it's supposedly a well-thought out, intricate setting. I've heard more people compare it to Kingdoms of Kalamar than Spawn of Fashan.

I hope that might explain it a bit better. I was referring to its "well-thought-out, intricate" nature. In KoK, everything is pretty well-reasoned, from its geology and geography, to its cultures.

Drat! And here I drove all through Hastings looking for it. :( Good thing that's a small town.

Idaho is a bit far to drive, unfortunately. Guess I'll have to wait for Amzn to process my order.

Great. Now you're stealing MY setting.

He didn't mention pirates. Not even once!

Also, where can I buy a gross of those baseball caps with "I don't know what I'm talking about" on them? I know some people I'd like to hand these out to!

Probably saving it for a splatbook or something.

Y'know, my coffee-induced ravings about Dinopirates made it into Dragon magazine's letter column. I felt a genuine sense of accomplishment.

Hey Stannis--

Now that it's been outed as a hoax, why don't you clear your name and identify the source?

Otherwise, right now, you get to have credit for spreading this trollish nonsense throughout the internet.

It'd be a shame if WotC decided you deserved to be served for libel and had a process server drop by your home.

Hmm. You vastly overestimate the importance of this post, his original post, Tekumel, Eberron, and ENWorld. Not bad. You have turned something minor at best into a potential lawsuit! Are you a lawyer? As far as I know, only lawyers think this apocolyptically...

Or you might be an insane prophet of Gawd. They do that, too.
