Emerald Press PDF Publishing is looking for skilled editors, layout artists, and interior artists to assist in the completion and future expansion of our upcoming Living Nights Campaign Setting. We are looking for people interested in joining a TEAM for the long haul, as we have already devised numerous PDF projects for this setting with plans to release six products within the first two months.

EXPERIENCE IS NOT REQUIRED!!! We are looking for those with skills, talent, and knowledge in completing their tasks (i.e. layout artists with ability to create PDF files).

Living Nights will use the Overlord System, in which one designer is charged with an entire nation. Each of these five core nations will be treated as mini-setting onto itself, so we are looking for a team of editors/layout artists/interior artists to join with each nation (as per the final approval of each Overlord). Each of these teams will report directly to the Overlord they are hired by and will be paid at a preset dollar amount/copy sold (this amount will vary on the size, scope, and suggested retail price of the PDF involved). For the moment, there are no plans for a print release, but this possibility has not been eliminated at this time.

If your are interested in submitting material for this open call, please follow the guidelines below:

1. Be sure that you are looking for steady work -- through the Overlord system, there is potential for numerous products to be launched for each nation, depending on the work and results produced by each team.
2. Contact the Warden at warden@emeraldpress.net to be put on a submission list. Please specify whether you are interested in editing, layout, or interior art by placing the following subject line: LIVING NIGHTS - (position name). If you are interested in multiple aspects (i.e. editing/layout), please send two emails, one for each position.
3. After an undetermined period of time, we will reply to each candidate simultaneously with an assignment and deadline. To become a future consideration, the assignment must be completed on or before the deadline, at which point all completed submissions (which will come from the same master copy) will be collected and evaluated by the Overlords.
4. Final candidates will then be assigned one final test: to complete work on a chapter in our upcoming free adventure, The Palace of Doom and Despair. At this phase, your inclusion to the Living Nights/Overlord Team will be certain, but not yet guaranteed. As stated above, we must be certain that all team members are capable and timely in their work.
5. Each Overlord will announce their publishing team through a private email and then publicly on this open call thread. At this point, depending on the number of submissions received, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to contact each individual, regardless of the outcome, but we will put forth our best effort to do so.

Living Nights will be an exciting step in our evolution and we are looking forward to assembling an incredible team of editors, layout artists, and interior artists to make this dream -- which has already been two years in the making -- a reality. If you are seriously interested in making a name for yourself in the RPG publishing industry and would like the opportunity to work on Living Nights, please contact the Warden at warden@emeraldpress.net to start the process.

Thank you in advance for all interest and submissions.

What do you pay your editors?

We pay everyone involved in a project a pre-determined flat rate, which is close to 10% of the cover price under nromal circumstances. This amount can be changed based on the particular whims of the Overlord (especially if one of them is a nasty speller).

Does that mean the editor of your $20 book makes $2?

For a PDF, yes it would. It's important to note that anything other than PDF (such as a print copy) would have different stipulations attached since there are different costs involved and such matters are addressed in our contracts.

But if we charge $20 for the PDF that you are involved in, you would receive $2 per copy.

I would be interested in doing some interior art. I would like to see a description of some of the races (& such) to see if I can get a good feel for drawing them.

You realize that is a logical contradiction, right? :)

You mean $2 per $20 copy sold (obviously PDFs tend to go for less)? If so, that doesn't seem like a 'pre-determined flat rate.'

Or do you mean $2 per $20 project?

The actual dollar amount that will be paid out will be based on the price determined for the PDF itself, which has yet to be set considering we are not sure how large it is. However, we will pay a set $ amount close to 10% of the PDF's cover price per copy sold.

Starting today, everyone that has sent us an email expressing interest in this project will be contacted with their first entry-level submission project. The deadline for this asssignment will be March 19th, so if you feel that you will be able to complete a significant assignment by this time and would still like to enter your name for this open call, we are still accepting submissions.

I would like to thank everyone for the interest that has been given to this project.
