Elemental damage spells (4th ed?)

I just realised that these spells , i.e. burning hands, fireball etc... do not need to be the way they are. Yes I know of energy substitution but...

1) Ok, choose an energy type. All should be balanced, i.e. all useful against many foes. No sonic ruling all.

2) Spell progress up from 1st to 9th by delivery, range, area effect, duration, saves.

3) Examples? (Guess what the original spell is)
* flaming touch
* Sonic lingering boom
* frost ball
* acid storm
* cone of acid
* chained sonic boom
* delayed blast frostball
* ?
* naw we can't change meteor swarm

Anyway the point is that that wizards could have the flexibility without expending precious feats.

Thoughts?

hhhmmmm

Thats a good one but like how i am Being a mage and all. i ingoy the being able to cast those spells but.....

the point your trying to get across is kinda not clear claify what you mean for me please....

Sorry.

The point I am trying to get across is that elemental damaging spells can be modulated, that is broken into their various componants, altered and put back together again.

We have melfs acid arrow for example. There is no reason (assuming all elemental types became balanced) why it could not be a fire arrow that burns afterwards, or cold, acid, sonic or electricity.

Essentially there would be 5 energy types for every elemental damaging spell. Fireball to shocking grasp to...

But, elemental damage would have to be balanced. That is, monsters would not be allowed to have immunities to all elements and one element (currently sonic) would not be a beat them all type.

This is not too well thought upon, it is true. Just some ideas bouncing.

You should take a look at Elements of Magic by Natural 20 Press. It does exactly, and I mean EXACTLY, what you're talking about.
