Well THAT explains a lot. I never met this Kivan guy in BG1, and I played through it at least 3 times. Where is he?

I'm not 100% certain, since it's been over a year since I last played BG1, but I think that Kivan can be found in the woods west of Beregost. You'll bump into him and he'll offer to join up with you.

If you put Viconia and Kivan in the same party, they'll constantly threaten each other. Kinda funny, actually.

Just a little north-west of that wizard's house. You know, that round building, surrounded by gnolls and skeletons, where you may also meet someone who wants to plunder the house but finally think he would be better harassing some hobbits.

In the house, you have two flesh golems that will attack you if you don't hurry to speak with the wizard. He's standing near a funky shimmering energy field thingie. He may sell you items, including the claw of Kazgaroth. And if you meet Melicamp in the south, the sorcerer's apprentice turned into a chicken, you have to bring him to that wizard so that he could break the polymorph. You need a skull for that, and you've better saving just before he tries, because it may fail, and if it fail, you gain no XP for that quest (it's random, just reload and repeat).

The place's name is High Hedge, or a name like that.

*nod* Kivan can be found in the High Hedge area, west and (slightly) north of Beregost. He uh... wasn't really worth keeping around in my oppinion. Good enough cannon fodder when you needed someone to suck up those dire charms and then fireball into kingdom come when you run into those sirines a few maps over on the coast. But that's about it. If you're looking for an archer, just wait for Coran.

Oh most definately humans as the last poster said. Elves just tend to leave a bitter taste in one's mouth. Unless you have them boiled with some Styx water and a dash of Baatorian brandy. Nicely rubbed with sage and roasted along with larvae steaks is pleasant to the tongue as well. All served with a bitter Pluton vintage wine is quite nice.

Oh, were we not talking about which was best to eat? My mistake, pardon me entirely. But if we're talking about which species is best, clearly Arcanoloths. No argument there. And of them, 'I'm' the best of them. Obviously..:D

To answer the actual question, it's hard to tell. Elves are a constant source of annoyance, between their wacky conception of what chaotic goodness is (elves are the only exception to D&D's rule that alignment are absolute, not relative), the endless hordes of drooling fanboy they have on boards.wizards.com, their twenty thousand subspecies, each minmaxed for a different niche, and their general "holier than you, and also nimbler, prettier, smarter too" attitude.

On the other hand, living in the Real World (TM) allows one to discover at which point humans are really, hmm, something for which I don't see a polite word having the same meaning and strength as what I mean.

So, I would say elves, just because they don't exist.

[genuinely curious] How do you figure? [/genuinely curious]

Ah. I was going on the Core Rules elves, who, by their description in the PHB and MM, are Chaotic Good. I wasn't considering Forgotten Realms historical events, etc... I tend to ignore FR for the most part :)

Fair enough.
