Just to add insult to injury . . .

I have been checking my account status -- last week one day it said that my order was shipped. They provided a tracking number from the post office . . .

When I run the tracking number through the USPS web site, it tells me the package was delivered on 8/3.

But I don't have it. I still don't have it, and the Buy.com web site says they can't process the missing delivery stuff until 13 days after the package was shipped.

I got a response to my e-mail to customer service this morning - not sure if it was a form letter but it sure felt like it. They said that they'd encountered a "setback" with the manufacturer and were having trouble. I checked their website and it was still listed as in stock and ready to ship within 24-48 hours. Add that to the fact that other folks, some of whom ordered their copies after I did, have been sent and/or have received theirs...

So I sent back another e-mail calling their comments "interesting," pointing out those facts, and telling them that unless the situation is resolved to my satisfaction - which means "ship the item or give me a far better (and actually truthful) explanation," and I made that quite clear to them - I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau.

Well,

I ordered my copy of ELH for $14 (rounding) on July 22. I got it yesterday - August 6th after about 3 letters of question/complaint.

I didn't ever send them a real nasti-o-gram, just an anxious customer letter.

I wish all of you some (GOOD!) resolution on this matter.

I ordered July 22 at the $13.82 price and got the "Still Looking" email July 27, at which time the status was "Sent to Warehouse" and "On Order." I sent buy.com an email Sunday (Aug. 4) asking about the status of my order and got two emails that said:

Thank you for writing us at buy.com

We are in the process of investigating your issue, and we have had to
contact a third party for resolution. We are waiting on a reply from
the third party, and a customer care agent will respond to your email
within three business days.

Thank you for shopping at buy.com.

So I was about to write a follow-up email, but I decided to try the person-to-person method and gave them a call. (1-877-780-2464) The girl I spoke with was very kind and said that what my order said did not correspond with what their distributor said regarding stock. So she looked up the order on the distributor's site and said that it looked like the distributor had lost my order. She said she would reinstate it and it should ship out in 24-48 hours.

So I'll let you know what happens. I took the free shipping, but I'm in Mass. and the other times I've ordered from buy.com using standard shipping, it's come in just a couple days.

I also ordered my ELH, along with three other books, on July 22. According to the Buy.com website it shipped on August 2. The tracking number provided, shows that the package arrived in Denver yesterday. I am hoping that it will make its way to Arizona sometime today or tomrorrow at the latest.

I didn't send any emails or make any phone calls. It appears that I will get the ELH at the $13.82 price, since my credit card has already been billed for it.

When I ordered Prophecies of the Dragon (the d20 WoT mega-adventure) from Amazon.com, the USPS delivered it to the apartment complex next to the one I live in. I only got it because someone in the apartment office there (or maybe the person who lives in the corresponding apartment number to mine in that complex) realized the mistake; I was about a day from sending nasty emails to the USPS and Amazon.

So if the USPS says it was delivered, then I'd say you're probably looking at a USPS screw-up, not a Buy.com screw-up.

Well, we have a pattern here. Within hours of being told on the phone that my ELH would be shipped within 24-48 hours, I received an email telling me that my order had been cancelled.

That about does it for me. Frankly, I'd rather pay full price than deal with this kind of business. At least I know I can make a useful contribution by sending a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

Ordered 2 on 22 of Aug. See previous posts. Got here today. at noon on the 7th of Aug. I was of the ilk that decided not to write or call, because they seemed to be cancelling when they did that. I patiently waited and it has paid off. I flipped through the books today. I hope it works out for you folks.

Well, I called the 877 # and talked to a very nice lady who said that the type of account they have with USPS, that it could take anywere from 1-3 weeks upon arrival. My book was shipped and that I would just have to hang out a little longer...
