Enterprise 10-30-02

Me neither. Its not like they could have merely modernized the Klingons from TOS instead of completely changing their appearance as well as their personality.

You reap what you sow. You make major stupid changes then expect to get called on it left and right.

The episode seemed like it was better if it was Firefly and not Enterprise. But I guess every series has to do a Magnificient Seven episode sooner or later.

I found this episode to be rather boring and obvious. The action was poor, the plan was boring, no heightened drama or any spark at all. The bartering for supplies was about the most interesting thing in the episode.

The"stand up to bullies" theme was way to over the top for me.

I hope next week is better.

It's not like the fans could cut them a little bloody slack, and admit that perhaps with a couple decades of time between TOS and TNG that Gene Roddenberry might have come up with what he thought was a better idea. Heaven forfend that Gene should sacrifice precious continuity to come up with a better story, one more relevant to the times and people watching the new show.

*sigh*. Fans have so little room in their hearts for change.

Thus endeth the rant.

Hmmm... That's what I actually meant by "Can't imagine why..." but Tim somehow didn't pick up on the subtlety. At that level of tolerance, modern day dramas shouldn't be using cars newer than twenty years old. *shrug*

I did fully pick up on your comment. I merely ignored it.

Update the costumes because better special effects are available and you have more money. That is fine and dandy with me.

Change the entire race and its personality based on one small segment of Worf's metally unbalanced personality is what ruined everything and destroyed the Klingons. Good thing Worf hadn't been played by Pee Wee Herman who liked streaking through the corridors of the Enterprise. Otherwise by the end of the second season of TNG that is what the entire Klingon race would have been like.

The problem is simple. The sad writers of STNG ruined almost all of the Star Trek races. They did this by making them all Borg. Not a single Star Trek race shows any variety. Each one has a completely monotone culture that every member of the race fits into perfectly. I guess in the writers eyes only the human race is fit to have any cultural diversity. The rest of them are mere one trick ponies that beat that pony to death time and time again.

LOL, very true.

Unfortunately it is a template that has been pressed onto every STNG foe.

All ferengi became greedy bastards after one single Ferengi made a comment that there was no profit in trying to drive Picard insane.

All klingons are bloodthirsty drunk vikings after Worf acted like that in a couple holodeck sessions.

Its the same thing. The writers take one small item from a race and make the entire race into that.

Borg's not a race; it's a template. ;)

I seem to recall a fair amount of diversity in the races (those that communicated with the crew) on Voyager. Can of worms? Maybe. I'm sure a number of one-note races can also be named from that series but I'd be curious to see how many with depth could be pointed out before discarding the notion. :)
