I'm amazed at the effort some people put into building up this image of me being an edition basher (any edition) ...

It's not something that's been 'built up' -- it's just an obvservation I've formed over the past year.

There are like 4 people here who get up in arms whenever I post anything starting or responding to any reference or comparison to editions of the game.
...

You win: I only have 3 people who get up in arms at my comments ...

Give me a break! That's the most ridiculous thing I've...

What were we talking about again? :)

I'd like to think that I can disagree and have interesting conversations with the C&C, OD&D, etc. crowds without getting "up in arms" but I tend to come across as fairly brusque, I think. Unintentionally, but there you have it.

Joshua,

if it's any consolation... you aren't on my ignore list. which is a lot more than i can say for most of the rest of this thread.

i tend to agree with your style of discourse.

Wow, I'm flattered! Especially since your ignore list seems to comprise something like 80% or more of the active posters here.

Well, I guess I'm doing something right.

I tend to respond "in kind". If someone rants in a brusk manner, I tend to respond that way. If someone insults, I return it. If someone uses absurdities, I do too.

If some oldschooler comes here and says "D&D3 is stupid because it is all based around rolling a d20." I point out that earlier editions must be stupid too because they used the d20 in the same way for the same purposes. Then my 4 hounders jump in my junk for my response. It's like I have anti-fans. Kind of cool in a bizarro kind of way.

Actually, the more I think on it, I like having anti-fans. Sort of like D&D's Pat Pulling and Jack Chick.

And that's that.

Remember. Be nice to one another and avoid version wars and messageboard invasions. Also, try to keep the discourse civil, but somewhere else. This thread is now dead.
