I tend to respond "in kind". If someone rants in a brusk manner, I tend to respond that way. If someone insults, I return it. If someone uses absurdities, I do too.

This isn't particularly acceptable here. If someone else crosses the line, and you decide to do likewise, you're going to amplify the problem instead of helping contain it. It's generally much more effective to report problem posts and talk to people as if they're mature adults, because that encourages other posters to do the same and the thread stays both interesting and on track. Two people going off on one another gets threads closed and members suspended. And where's the fun in that?

Remember, folks - it's okay to disagree with peoples' ideas. Don't tell them what they should think, though, and don't make personal attacks even if you really, really disagree with them. That makes the boards better for everyone.
