Epic-Level: Non-Single Class

For example, Barbarian 17/Fighter 6.

ELH implies that this character would be considered epic, by virtue of being level 21+: but neither of his classes are of epic caliber. Would I simply hobble together something with the epic attack/save bonuses etc., or how would this be handled?

THis is epic. As soon as your character levels equal 21 and higher, you use the new BAB and ST progressions. You can choose epic feats with your feats gained through character level, but not through fighter levels until it becomes high enough to use the epic fighter table.

"When your single-class epic character gains a level, you may choose to increase the level of your current class or pick up a new class at first level......When you have to choose from a list of bonus feats in your second class, you can also choose from the bonus epic feats described for each specific class below." --ELH, page 8.

At first I didn't like this rule, but considering that an epic Fighter can use his bonus feats to rape the Barbarian's claim to fame regarding Damage Reduction, I see know reason why an epic Barbarian shouldn't be able to pick up a few levels of fighter to get some extra epic feats.

This actually helped me out. It's something I was a bit confused by. I looked for exactly what you just said, but just could not find the passage. So, essentially, the fighter's bonus feats cannot be used for epic feats until 21st class level is achieved.

I completely take your word on this, but could you quote the passage? I was driving myself up the wall looking for it a few days ago, and you'll save me from a bit of eyestrain if you could point it out.

EDIT: Kai Lord already pointed this out. So, the fighter's bonus feats can be used for epic feats, even if the character has less than 20 class levels?

As Kai Lord rightfully pointed out, I'm wrong. I totally missed that passage before and figured (rightfully so) that if this was the case they would say so. Oops!!

Hey, no prob! It's an easy assumption to make. It seems logical to me too.

I'm just embarrassed. I don't know the rules front to back like some people, but this was something I thought I knew.

Thanks Kai Lord for correcting me.

Ah, if you do a search of some of my posts shortly after the ELH came out, you'll see that I made the same mistake. I realized the error of my ways while lurking on another board some time ago, and now I get to post about it here like I knew what I was talking about from the beginning. :D
