Eric at GenCon -- the Special Collector's Edition Thread

Oh, hey, Russ, don't know if Adlon told you or not but he said his computer lost power about halfway through the ceremony (as far as he could tell). So I don't know if he's going to have an audio file for you or not. He should have some pics though!

We got the first 26 mins, apaprently.

OK, I just got back into Vancouver and want to add my recollections (addled and booze soaked as they are) to the growing list.

NEW FRIENDS

  • Mark "Creative Mountain" Clover: I knew mark to talk to him from our ivolvement in last years ENnies, and got drawn into a pickup D&D game he was DM'ing the first night I was in town. For those of you who don't know him, all I can say is :seize the opportunity should it present itself.

Mark was a blast to hang out with, equal parts intense and laid-back. His finest hour was (in my opinion) when he, using the single most half-assed, cockeyed load of bull:):):):) imaginable, managed to get Morrus, Al (who will be mentioned later) and myself past on hour long line up for the venerable Safe House. It was a thing a of beauty, becasue there was, quite literally no way in hell it should have worked.

    Mark made it work :)
  • Morrus: I roomed with Morrus in the ENnies judges suite, and found him to be every bit as cool as you would expect from reading his interaction on these boards. He was very, very British (and I mean that in only the best sense of the term; dry, reserved, witty).
  • Morrus's Friend Al: I think everyone who met Al was quite taken with him. He is close to the dictionary definition of "Socially at ease", slipping from conversation to cnversation with ease. He joined the RPGA while at Gen Con and had nothing but good to say about Nemmerle's adventure.

Al intends to begin posting here on these boards when he gets back to England under the Nom De Plume Inconsiqenti-Al.

Make him feel welcome, the boards will be the better for it:)
  • M. Jason Parent: The board's own Hellhound was to be the ENNie's "Giant Killer"...the only entrant to beat WotC in a category in which they were entered. Portable Hole Full of Beer carried the day in it's category, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!

Jason was going to run a game of Villains and Vigilantes on saturday afternoon, but some jack-off stole his copies of the (out-of-print) V&V rules. If the thief is reading this post I want them to know there's a special place in hell for them:mad:
  • Hal Greenberg and the gang from Thunderhead Games: Hal and the crew were a fun bunch o spend time with: lively, voluble companions who (inadvertently) were the force used by Creative Mountain to grease us in the doors at the Safe House.

So THG, take heart. Your name is apparently Gold in Milwaukee. When THG says "Jump"...Milwaukee asks "How High?" ;)
  • : Claudio Pozas and the guys from Fiery Dragon: I've seen Claudio's work online, but I was unprepared for the beautiful pencil work portfolio that he showed me. I knew he was talented, but until tht moment I had no idea he was immensely talented.

As for his cohorts at Fiery Dragon, I'll just say what everyone says after meeting them: These are good guys. I didn't spend a great deal of time with them, but I put a lot of stock in first impressions.

Also, their poster for upcoming product Atomic City was something I wish I could've bought. I may well buy the supplement itself based on the cover art (and "don't judge a book by it's cover" be damned).

I'll post more after I've had a bite to eat and am alittle more relaxed. But all told, this was a great con:)

One more thing you have to know is that "Teflon Billy" is a *damned* handsome fellow. You have no idea. His stupid sig pic makes you think he'd look like, well, a psycho.

Jeff, I was sorry that I ran into you so relatively late in my GenCon trip. And again my apologies for screwing up your name live at the ENnies. :)

Heh. I think I may adopt that as my sig file...

As I was saying my farewells, he jokingly motioned a hug-like gesture, never realizing that I love to give hugs.

It's true! Eric had to hit him with a crowbar to get him off my leg, darn it. :D

My report tomorrow after I've rested. It was a great weekend!

During that time we learned that Russ had been mistaken for (well, maybe "favorably compared to") Gary Oldman in NYC.

You know there is a resemblance. But it is not nearly as strong as you and Gary Coleman. :D

Nemmerle caught some compromising photos of Piratecat and me doing something naughty.

You know if I didn't know what the picture was of I would have the wrong idea about you two. ;)

Man, James, I totally forgot to look for you at the Dealer's Room. Then again, my dealer room behavior tends to be "weave through the annoying crowd, avoid eye contact. Do not talk to anyone, lest they tell you about their character."

I, too, had a marvelous GenCon. It was great to meet Russ, Al, Ryan, Jess, Mark, Andy and to see Eric, Kara and Greg again. (Plus anyone who's name I missed.) The chicken dance was funny, but Kara grabbing Eric's butt was funnier. And ask Kara and Al about the magician and what happened to their watches.

I wish I'd had more time to hang, and I wish I'd made the Ennies. I was playing the first round of the Cthulhu Masters, an event more sanity twisting and intense than anything you can imagine. The people responsible are sick little monkeys, and I should know, as I've been one of them for five or six years.

We also get the fun of having Russ and Al come to Boston for a day or so this week, to visit the city of Boston, partake of our English mocking tourist attractions and play with us on Thursday. So there, nyah, nyah.

Lucky! Can I play too?
