Errors

Ok, these are pregenned characters and we don't know all the rules that went into making them, but...

Everyone seems to have an unspecified +2 to hit, except for the fighter, he gets a +3.

Dwarven Fighter:
Greataxe should do 1d12, not 2d6.
Also Soldier seems to be short a skill or trait. Possibly endurance is considered to be worth two traits, more likely it was the extra language mentioned in the L&L arcticle and we're not doing languages yet.

Dwarven Cleric:
Warhammer listed as 1d10 damage, should be 1d8.
Seems to have an extra point of AC. Class/domain/theme feature or error?

Human Cleric:
No obvious errors.

Elven Wizard:
Has an extra 1st level spell memorized for no discernable reason. Bonus spell due to Intelligence? Theme benefit? Error?

Halfling Rogue:
Dagger does 1d6, should do 1d4.
Sling listed as 1d8, should be 1d6.

BTW, while weapon proficiencies are listed I don't see the penalty for non-proficiency. Thoughts? Disadvantage or lose that +2/+3 to hit?

[edit] This is hopefully vague enough to not violate the rules about mentioning mechanics. If a mod disagrees kindly delete the post, and not my account. :) It's hard to discuss possible errors while being less specific, and I think it's a worthy topic.

The mysterious +2 is actually explained in the rules under the attack roll section as weapon training, the casters just have their bonus flat out explained for their magic attacks. Also the Human cleric's attack stats with his staff are using strength not dex, despite his using a finesse weapon. Same with the wizard. The wizard also has +1 extra to hit with his spells.

I just finished building the ElfWizard in detail and the math is full of contradictions and errors. So is the fighter, so is the halfling. This is just not good play-test material. It's not ready.

You can cast only 3 spells per day and then you have to use the quarterstaff.
ShockingGrasp damage is listed as 1d8+3 lightning but under the Magical Attacks section it says that you add your intelligence modifier +2 to the attack. That is 1d20+5 not 1d20+6

I'm starting to get very angry because this entire packet looks like it was put together by an intoxicated dwarf in under a week who doesn't play the game. I feel like we're being punked and trolled.

See my note below. Plane Sailing

Did we find out where the fighter's +2 extra damage comes from? STR + Weapon Focus = +5, but he's got a +7.

My guess would be that is has to do with it being wielded two-handed. It would equal 1.5 x Str modified (rounded up).

I noticed that the bastard sword goes up a die when used two-handed. I wonder if that was an option as some point for all two-handed weapons and that's why the battleaxe does 2d6; doesn't explain the warhammer though.

It is a little frustrating to see such contradictions in the playtest.

Problem is that the Fighter is using a greataxe, not a battleaxe, and the bastard sword has that property as a special feature not a general rule. I had originally thought that the increased fighter damage was a return to the 1.5x Str mod rule, but the rules say to always round down, which would make it only a +1 not a +2.

Oops, misread the post about the hobbit's damage. I thought you were asking for them to bump his damage down a die-size for being small, but you were just talking about normal dagger and sling damage.

(I was about to rant about the 3e/PF nerf to hobbits and gnomes, but thankfully 5e seems to have avoided that pitfall.)

To be fair, I don't think we have enough information to claim something is or isn't an error. I just figure we're better off playing the PCs as they are, until the designers tell us otherwise.
