EUREKA #2: A New World/Season IV/2010

Truth Seeker

Adventurer
A New World

As the Founders' Day festivities continue, Carter and the others must accustom themselves to the new time line and how Dr. Grant fits into it. Unfortunately, reacclimatization needs to occur on a steep learning curve—"Tiny", one of Global Dynamic's projects, has run amok in the crowded town.

Another great episode.

I had two favorite little beats in this episode:

1) Carter and Jo talking in GD after the positron storm. Carter shows Jo deference as he's in her house, and she takes charge while showing deference to his position as her ex-boss. It was such a little thing, but it's something that would come naturally for them.

2) There were plenty of callbacks in the episode - Andy, Martha, and so on. The most subtle one, and my favorite, was Jack's line about collapsing space-time being bad. He would know, since he was/is the only one aware of it when it killed Stark.

I was very pleased that they got rid of the Bridge without making anyone a "bad guy," even if Grant, Fargo, and Allison all had excellent reasons to stay.

I'm assuming at this point that there was something between Kevin and Zoe. The way Allison said that they talked about girlfriends was way too coy, and Zoe's name-dropping was much too frequent.

Nit-picking about colleges: while Harvard is a good school, it's not really a science-oriented school, with the exception of the medical school. Even with the med school, I would expect Eureka's kids to be going to MIT or Cornell or similarly science-focused schools.

I like that Alternate Fargo was a dick. We also got hints that Alternate Allison may have been a bit distant with her kids. I hope we learn more about the other Alternate folks.

My day would be made if Stark shows up alive.

Tiny was awesome. It was reminiscent of Star Wars The Clone Wars.

It was a better episode than the season premier.

But, the plot hole is that with all of GD's resources, they can build a new Einstein-Grant device even better in a short period of time. So that really shouldn't be an issue.

But I'd like to see Fargo mature with guidance from Allison.

And I'm glad he's given that chance.

But rumormill has it that he and Jo are going to be romantic by seasons' end.

There are already two clues there.

First, when everybody was dreaming in that one episode, Jo had that Zorro romantic dream about fargo.

Secondly, and this is a subtle clue, Jo lost Zane, and became head of GD's security with Fargo losing his girlfriend (SHE MARRIED AN ASTRONAUT!!!!!) and is now head of GD. So, was Alt Fargo having an affair with Jo?

Hmmmmm.....

Did Zoe say she wanted to be an MD? I think there was a multi-part plan (like MD + PhD in something), but I'm pretty sure she was going to Harvard for the medical school.

So far, I like this reboot, though I'm hoping that they don't just forget that they're from another timeline -- I hope Henry still pines for his first love, etc.

I do wonder how many dead people are going to show up as alive again.

Yeah, I thought this was a great follow-up to their incredibly strong season opener. I like the glimpses into the alternate lives, as LightPhoenix noted above. Fargo was apparently a controlling ass. Allison was more distant. Jo went into corporate security. And judging by the reactions around town, Henry and Carter haven't changed at all.

Which brings up an interesting point -- Henry is now married. How awkward would THAT be, to suddenly be married to someone that you might not even have known all that well? How do you fish for clues to your own married life? How do you *not* give it away to the person who -- theoretically, at least -- knows you better than anyone else?

Yikes.

Yeah, even though they've all taken a vow of silence, at the very least Henry has a very good probability of spilling the beans to his wife.

Females are always asking about things like "do you remember where we first kissed?" and the like. Another great example is that he doesn't even know the details of their first date or the marriage anniversary or how long they've been married. So that's going to be a stickler for him.

It'll be interesting to see how the writers handle that. And I hope it won't be with something like a throwaway line.
