Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

Voda Vosa

First Post
Earth was about to crush the undead seconds after the actual execution took place. The unmoving mound of dirt and earth had shifted wearily to the presence of the unnatural, and was about to engage it. With a soft rumble, the mound gets back to be the mountain of earth in the middle of the tavern once again.

A most distinctive lady, very fine of feature--a long, elegant face, delicate snout, scales a subtle olive green tinged with gold, favoring a long robe, enters the tavern. She immediately spots her adventuring partners, Eithal, Scarmiglione, and Yishim, and walks over to them.

"Thought I'd find you all here. Work has been slow since we left the sewers. But, um... I might have something for us. I-If you're not busy..." The lizardfolk speaks softly as always, but her voice carries far enough for the nearby patrons of the tavern to hear.

Who is your friend dear? Beatrice says asking the Goliath. Anybody a friend of someone with free drink is a friend of mine!

Hi dear, hows it going? Beatrice says clanking over to the lizardfolk. Name is Beatrice, homemaker by trade. I've done some what could be called "adventuring" recently as a hobby. I've just met your friend here and she was nice enough to buy us some drink!

Anywho I suppose I own her one, so who you be needing to get rid of and how much do you pay?

Kruor hears The Cursed One's hisses and whispers. The machine lumbers forth, making no effort to be subtle.

"You...you no like monsters?" Kruor rumbled. An arm comes up to touch his face, the soft contact breaking away bits of fragile rust and dried blood. You see that the fingers of this robot have been replaced with glass vials with pointy needles at the tip.

Kruor sheaths his arm back under his cloak. "Me sorry. Me no want be born like this..."

"But who you talking to...if not me..."
The Cursed One cocks his head slightly without looking up as the bizarre metal creature grates its apology for its existence.

"Now look what you've done. Now they are talking to us!"

He then turns his head to meet the eyes or rather holes of the construct. He takes some time before responding his gaze flitting from one exotic patron to the other in what is now truly quite the menagerie.

"We are hardly one to judge what constitutes monstrous. We have felt the lash of hate upon arms, hand and back from those who thought us monstrous...

Something begins to rattle behind his back under his cloak that sounds like a sword rattling in its sheathe.

"Stop that! Ehem ...no, not you. Though if your existence pains you, we are willing to end your suffering with the sharp blow of mercy. Where were we ...?"

The Cursed One sips at his drink and continues.

"So, Monster, if that is what you call yourself, we have no quarrel with you. Our face is equally ... well not equally ... as disfigured as your own. We were merely wondering, obviously none too discretely ...that wass your fault! ... err, no not YOUR fault ... our fault... at the type of tavern we had wandered into. I hesitated when we saw the name, but we insisted upon entering. The Hanged Man indeed. It will be a wonder of the Star if we make it from this place with heart still beating in chest. But we have none to blame but ourselves. The sign was painted clearly. We are perhaps surprised to bear witness to the calm in the presence of sudden death. We have been trained to react ..."

The sound of sword, and a big one at that, screeching from sheathe is stopped the Cursed One twists around to stop it and push it back into place. Between teeth gritted into a circumstancial smile he hisses: "Stop it or we are going home!"

The Cursed One looks back to the emotionless face of the hideous construct and sighs.
"We badger your ears, well, not your ears suppose, with lost words. Sit, Monster" he says as he kicks back a chair, "we doubt your luck could get any worse in doing so."

The Cursed One flinches at the grandmother's words but bites down on the edge of his cup and chokes back his words, sensing that many of those he has perhaps inadvertantly offended with his unwise whispers are masters of powers far beyond his own, the old woman included. Such a thought sends him into a dark and silent brooding.

The mount rumbles again, the plants that grow on it shake a little bit. In her head, the lizardfolk can hear the mountain speaking to her. "I go where the abominations lurk. I stand, stalwart protector of Nature. I'm Earth."

Earth warden level 9 ready to roll.

OOC: Halleck L10 Update Completed. next level, first PP eva! Please don't kill me, GM.

[sblock=Note to other Players: Bravura]
Halleck has the Bravura Presence:
When an ally who can see you spends an action point to take an extra action and uses the action to make an attack, the ally can choose to take advantage of this feature before the attack roll. If the ally chooses to do so and the attack hits, the ally can either make a basic attack or take a move action after the attack as a free action. If the attack misses, the ally grants combat advantage to all enemies until the end of his or her next turn.

Melee characters might also want to save their AP until I hit with Withering Courage, so they can double dip on the +5 damage bonus.
[/sblock][sblock=Note to other Players: If you miss on something REALLY important]
Halleck has daily power Unintended Feint:
If you miss an attack, and you are within five squares of Halleck, you can use my daily power to reroll the attack with CA.

But, since it's a daily, please use wisely. Also, please throw up a big OOC message so I don't miss the fact that you used it.

[/sblock][sblock=Halleck's Log][sblock=Mark of Trogdor]
1. Thorkelson, a bald, tattooed man, entered the hangman's tavern and recruits Halleck and Vimak for a job. Thorkelson, needed some protection at the docks, but apparently had some sinister other motive, since he used drinks from the bar to drug Halleck and Vimak.

2. Wake up in the middle of a fight, being helped by strangers. Give the bandits a beating,

3. Get approached by the bandit leaders, who have two girls that look exactly like that one we want. The real girl is revealed, and natural, a fight breaks out. After we smash the goons, their leader, Hank the Tank comes out. And, eventually, Hank gets killed.

4. Get the real mission: deliver Lerrick to brother Buchta, so he can remove the mark of Trogdor from her forehead. The mark is in indicator to all that Lerrick has been chosen to be sacrificed to the dragon Bosch. Your quest as of now is to provide safe passage for Lerrick to brother Buchta so that he can perform the ritual. This includes taking her to the portal, traveling thought it, and then taking her from the portal to brother Buchta's place of residence.

5. Delivered Lerrick, performed the ritual, saved the day. However, discovered an evil dragon named Bosch who wears a necklace which makes him a juggernaut. Halleck carries a shield which should counter this effect. Adventurers now must stop the dragon.
[/sblock][sblock=Trogdor 1.5]1. Wait at Tavern.
2. Fight in tavern vs statues.
3. Kick Statue butt.

Toeto continues explaining, occasionally nodding to the people who make offers of assistance.

"Before I came to Daunton, I was a healer for my tribe in the Great Swamp. E.. er, you'd call it the S-Savage Lands. And, ah, we were fighting off a terrible sickness. It would drive us mad, you'd see. I-Insane." Toeto looks around uncomfortably. She takes a deep breath before going on.

"I was sent away just as the plague was going out of control. To come back when I learned more that could help. A-and, I think I can now. But, uh... not by myself. If my kin are still crazed, I need an e-escort to keep them away while I find a cure."

"I've just come back from the docks. A ship will be traveling to the swamp soon. The Bloated Whale, it's called." Here, Toeto looks around directly at the unfamiliar people who expressed interest. "But it can only bear seven of us..."

OOC: 6 PCs plus the shaman, that is! I'll check again tomorrow to see if anyone else is interested.
