"The problem about the Kingdom is that even those that managed to speak the language seem to differ on cultural points. There may be bad interpretations for several reasons, but I wondered if it isn't as centralised a society as one might first be led to believe."

"Now, as for this place, I think there have been other patrons from there who have spent time in this establishment, but I haven't been introduced, nor I believe in attendance when they have visited."

Hmm, this one certainly likes to talk. I suppose it's a gnomish trait, Xuan thinks as he listens to Lilli speak about his homeland.

"The Kingdom is a large place, madame. There are many different cultures there that make up the polity, some based on region, others on social rank. I suppose to an outsider they are more alike than not, but then isn't that always the case?" he says.

"I'm not surprised you've seen many of my countrymen here. From what I've seen of Daunton, it seems very cosmopolitan," he continues, bearing his pointy teeth in a smile. "You're a
khổng lồ cổ tích
, a gnome, no? Your kind are from a whole other world if I remember correctly."

Amused by the kobold's comment about the 'talking tree', Lilli smiles a half smile, as she confirms Xuan's deduction.

"Indeed, I am a Gnome. Most people tend to assume I'm something else, but the radical hair styling leads them astray somewhat," says Lilli, patting her coiffure. "There are Gnomes in this world, but I haven't seen many in Daunton. The island of Kythira is apparently where most of them live, though I'm quite sure the race has its origins in the feywilds of Arcadia. The latter is where I hail from, mind. Daunton's famous diversity has reached even there."

Lilli pauses a while for thought before continuing, frowning a little. The ghostly spider stirs on her back, its motion bringing her back to the present.

"khổng lồ cổ tích, is it? Thank-you, I'll remember that."

"khổng lồ cổ tích, is it? Thank-you, I'll remember that."

Xuan gives a little half smile and coves his face in embarrassment. "Ahh, yes, the literal translation would be giant fairy, I suppose since gnomes are significantly larger than most fairies. We don't really have your kind in the Kingdom, so we don't have a word that encompasses everything like gnome would"

He takes a sip from his drink again as he moves his eyes off of Lilli and back to the room for a moment. He does a quick scan and then returns to his drinking companion. "I've heard that people looking for hirelings often congregate here. Do you know if anyone around is one of these people?"

Lilli's own half smile breaks into a bubbling giggle.

"That's true enough and part of why I come here myself; though I can support myself on an even keel with my own expanding knowledge, I do need higher funds now and again. Haven't seen anybody asking for help within the last candle, alas.

A scantily clad elf saunters into the tavern. She holds the door open and peers inside, then back out to the street, then back inside once again.

"Oh dear, it seems I've lost someone." After a few moments, the bouncer grunts at the elf for holding the door open too long. "Oh, hi! You remember me, right? Eva? I was here with Ryan, the man with the zombie head in his bag. And there's Lilli over there!" Eva waves conspicuously to the gnome. "Hi Lilli!"

The bouncer grunts once again, prompting Eva to finally step inside The Hanged Man. She walks toward Lilli.

Artemis stirs from his thoughts at the sight of the new patron. With a spring to his step, he approaches the gnome mage and the new elf companion.

"Lilli, pray do introduce me to your... ahem, friend," he smiles.

Not waiting for the introduction, Artemis makes a deep bow, "Artemis Harks, soldier of fortune, at your service."

OOC: Aretmis, level 5 hexblade, just stirring the pot.

"Hello, little dragon man," Ironheart rumbles politely. "Have we met?"

"N-no, not exactly," says Papolstaanas. "I just remember seeing you from somewhere. I mean I used to talk to trees occasionally but I don't think any of them were you. At least, they didn't usually answer back."

Lilli waves back. "Hello Eva, been busy? I certainly have since we got back here. Now, Artemis here is a travelling companion from a bit previous," says Lilli with a warm smile. "Artemis, meet Eva, a travelling companion of my more recent past."
She gestures somewhat dramatically to her exotically robed drinking companion, "This is a newcomer to Daunton, a traveller from the Far Lands of The Kingdom of Jade, no less. Perhaps, you would honour us with a name, good Sir?"
