Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

*Cyrus shifts his gaze over to the two new comers that just entered. Momentarily watching the pair from the corner of his eyes. Waiting until they took a seat before slightly looking back to Zaemar.*

Indeed a troop of adventurers just left. Hmmm...for another job opening to occur. It could be a couple of minutes, or it could be a couple of days.

*He shrugs.*

Depends on the need for our skills sets. As well as what trouble there is going on in creation around us.

*He takes another sip of his ale.*

Interesting... Ardens mutters quietly under his breath. I simply agree to translate a note for this creature and it comes to me like a dog comes to its master. He pulls the note out of his pocket and quickly glances over it. I still don't see what's so important about this note.

He stuffs the note back in the fold of his robes and looks over at the two sitting at the bar, giving a brief nod as he notices them glancing at him.
Perhaps it is time to make some new contacts and see what they know. Ardens says to Damien as he gets up and goes to join the two that were looking at him from the bar.

My name is Ardens, he says to the pair. And who might you be?

Damien watches as Ardens gets up and walks towards the other two patrons in the bar. "Silly humans and their social affairs" he thinks to himself. "Never paying attention to their surroundings until its too late"

Damien had already assessed the other two at the bar. They posed minimal threat to him and by the looks of them, did not have enough money between the two to hire a poaching team. Thus they presented no information that he deemed necessary.

Still he lumbered over to the two figures and made with the "formalities" of human culture.

"Urrr... Damien" he grunted, as he pointed to himself.

Maroohk waits until he sees a group of patrons leave before slipping past them and entering the Hanged Man. Almost without conscious thought, he gently bumps into one of them as he passes, fingers deftly dipping into a coin purse to grab a few loose coins. By weight and feel, two silvers, more than enough for a few drinks. "Pardon me neighbor. Please allow me to open the door for you"

After entering, Maroohk takes a quick, cursory glance around the dimly lit room, noting the positions of the many patrons, the shadowy corners, the fireplace, the cluster of tables, then heads for the bar. He waits until the barkeep makes eye contact, "Good sir, an ale if you would be so kind.", and tosses one of the recently pilfered silver pieces on the counter. Taking his drink and leaving a generous tip, he turns and leans against the bar, and discreetly examines the patrons a little more closely as he takes a swallow, quenching his parched mouth.

[sblock=ooc]Hello all. First timer PbP here, but familiar with 4e. Just looking for some extra game time![/sblock]

*Cyrus turns slightly as he spots the pair coming towards him. He looks to the human at first then up to the bugbear as he was currently sitting instead of standing.*

Hmmm....

*He ponders looking the pair over before standing to his feet towering over even the massive bugbear beside the human. He extends a hand to Ardens.*

Names Cyrus. This here is Zaemar. Just arrived into town like the two of you. Take it your looking for some work as well?

*His keen eyes look to the pickpocket as he enters and moves towards the bar where they stood before looking back to the pair before him.*

I'm not interested in menial tasks, but I suppose yes. I need to do some searching throughout this area, so if I were given the opportunity to get paid for traveling outside the city, I see no reason to turn it down. If there were a job that would allow me to search some of the more hidden corners of this area, it would be of particularly great interest to me.

Ardens's gaze follows Cyrus's to the man who has just entered the bar, sizing him up, before turning back to the bar and sitting at a nearby empty stool.

While entering the city, Maroohk overheard a guard say that the Hanged Man was a known spot for young adventurers to gather and look for contracted work. Always eager to earn fast coin from a quick blade he headed here immediately.

Taking a refreshing sip of ale, Maroohk casually glances over the rim of the mug. He senses that his entrance has not gone unnoticed, just as he intended, thinking *A little free advertising never hurts*. Maroohk sets his mug down on the bar behind him. A dagger appears in his hand as if by magic, and he then begins to carefully clean his fingernails of his right hand. Catching the looks from a few of the patrons, he dips his head in friendly recognition, the proceeds to clean his other hand's nails.

*So, apparently we all play the waiting game*, grinning at the thought. He knows from experience, that good things come to those who are patient.

The door bursts open, and a HUGE woman enters the Hanged Man. She is dressed in hide armor that looks like it was pulled directly off the animal while it was still alive, and has been through hell and back since that day (and perhaps hasn't yet made an exit from that location). From her head hang tendrils of blond dreadlocks that form a matted, ropey mass cascading down to cover broad, muscular shoulders and from the back of which protrudes a menacingly large battle axe. When the doors stop swinging, she cups her massive hands around her mouth and cries out,

"Eaiyethaaaaal Leeeeyemiyindt Aaaaaayareheyi"
OOC: Imagine a very deep Alabama/Georgia accent. Think Gone With the Wind or something. For the correct spelling of her name, see my signature below. The level and link are not up to date because I have not been able to update them without becoming a community supporter. Nevermind.

"Weeeeeehew!" She strides over to the table where Fredrock, Yishim, Toeto, and 'Harold' are sitting, floorboards creaking under her giant frame "Whayel hah thayah Scar..."

'Harold' shoots Eithal a halting look and presents his hand to the female goliath, "Harold, my *ehem* lady."

Eithal decides to play along, winking quite overtly, "Gotcha Hayrold. Mahnd if'n Ah grayab me a seet heyah? Ole Freddie, Yishie, Towee Toe and Ah gow bayack a lowng way."

"Not at all, my dear," replies "Harold," shifting over to allow the enormous woman more room. "May I offer you some wine? Quite robust, full-bodied, distinctive nose..."

The tavern door opens wide and Jesse, an tiefling in robes shuffles in. His face is solemn and his eyes shy towards the floor. He closes the door behind him and makes his way to the bar. This is Jesse's first time in a society with people other than his master so he takes in every detail. A huge woman around 4 or 5 others stand out from the crowd, a fireplace crackles and spits.

A voice speaks out from behind him, "Would you like a drink, sir?"
Jesse wheels around in surprise, The bartender looks him straight in the eye. "Uh-umm, a drink?"
"Yes, a drink, anything you would like?"
"Err, um...what do you have?"
"We've got ale, Winter Scotch, Fire Brandy..."
"Ale? What's that?"
"You've never had ale?! Hey, guys! Look at the new kid! He's never had ale before! Ohoho! That's rich, son."
Flustered, Jesse looks down and away from all the glances he receives.

OOC: My first time in any tabletop roleplaying game. Please guide me, ya?
Here's my character sheet (unapproved)

Also, how do I make those magical spoiler/ooc tags that ksb420 uses?
