Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

The effect is subtle at first.

The music is that of a sailor's hornpipe, a whistling jaunty tune suited for work or travel, an air to bring lively interest to a dull task- it starts so low that most of those near the door hardly notice, and it is a few moments before they consciously realize they are hearing the music- and it is another moment or two before they realize that they are hearing it in their heads, not through their ears. Despite that rather unusual thought, it IS a truly upbeat, lively tune- even the Mayor and his guardsman find it hard to resist smiling, if only a bit.

And just as the music swells so that most of those at the front of the tavern can 'hear' it, the front doors are shoved open. Standing in the entryway is a woman of just above average height, her skin tinged the faintest shade of golden brown and her hair a luxuriant cascade of jet-black waves. She is clad in brilliant crimson scale, fitted as tightly as a second skin, under a long black overcoat- and there is a curved sword slung across her back, a blade that seems perhaps a bit too large for her. Her eyes, like those of the elven sorceror at the Mayor's side, are orbs of pure white- but in her case it seems to be no handicap at all. The music fades, to a soft hint in he background, as she speaks- in a voice that is rich and musical in itself. "I'm Joy, returned from a very frustrating venture, and ready for a drink!" With the custom of the tavern satisfied, she strides to the Mayor's table. "Word on the street is that you are looking to hire a crew, and I would like to do some good. What say you?"

OOC: Joy is leveled up to 7, very nearly 8; Ardent|Bard +Warlord, ready to go. http://l4w.wikia.com/wiki/PC:Joy_(pathfinderq1)

A young woman, difficult to place her age, skips into the bar after Joy enters. The young lady is initially covered in a heavy traveling cloak and a wide brimmed traveling hat, which she removes after she gets inside the doors. The items disappear into the pouch at her hip, which would seem incapable of holding the items, yet they slide into the pouch without difficulty. The girl can't be more than a teenager, with pale skin, light blue eyes and shoulder length brown hair braided to the back. Feelings of happiness emanate out from her, accentuating Joy's effect on the bar patrons.

"Hi everyone! I'm back!"

She lightly prances past the crowd at the door, but pauses momentarily to give Eva a brief hug (Eva's body language would indicate the hug was not desired or welcomed) and then bounces to the bar.

"Water with a lemon please!" She announces when she sits at the bar. "Um, what's going on over there?" She jerks her thumb toward the door.

OOC: Merri level 6 psychic vampire/ardent is available if you need her. It looked like the spots were filled, but if you want her or someone isn't coming, she'll help out.

Merri kind of bounces in her seat to the sound of Joy's projected music.

OOC: What would be funny is if one was happy and the other mad, people would feel one way, then the other as the crossed the room.... like going through puberty again. :)

Vermitrax musters something under his breath. He stands, offering a bow. "Master Vermitrax, wizard by trade. I travel with the silent Knorn." he waves to a silent and shady warrior to his right. "We offer our services to whom pays handsomely."

Level 8 wizard (necromancer, but shh, don't tell anyone)

The kobold looks around the room, too puzzled at the moment by the sudden change in the atmosphere to continue feeling sorry for himself. "Why am I hearing music in my head?" he mumbles. Could mental music be a side effect of his condition, assuming that it is a condition, and not just an indication that he is going crazy? Which would itself be a condition, of course, craziness that is, but not the sort of condition that he thought he.... Where could that music be coming from? He doesn't recall any mention of head-music in the reading material, but perhaps it would be a good idea to check. He suddenly notices that Merri is bouncing in time to the music in his head and starts to get a rather worried look. He fishes a large, colorful pamphlet out of his backpack and pores over it intently for a few minutes.

[sblock=ooc]So it looks like Papolstaanas will end up in the lower-level adventure rather than the higher-level one? I'll finish up his sheet for level 7 in that case.[/sblock]

Lilli had enjoyed listening to Dina's lesson before all the recent commotion had started. She wanted desperately to ask the apparently distraught kobold what the problem was, but the recent reaction from the others of his kind made her wary. She really hadn't understood it at all.

Lilli gave Eva a wave.

OOC: I'll sort out the interest over the next day or two when I have some more time. Had to work a bunch this weekend.

"It would seem you got all the interest you are likely to get, sir. Is there anything else we should know, get some letter of introduction or something...or we can go with your crest?"
