frenzied berserker 10 with its improved power attack is completely insane with this weapon

But put something in front of him with a really high AC and the sword will drain him pretty quick. :)

ooooooh, fun

The only problem I can see is that there is no "off switch." For example:

Fighter attacks Goblin and misses by 10pts. Fighter with only 9hp left falls dead on dead Goblin.

I would add the ability for the wielder to not use the ability. That way they can decide whether or not to lose the HP. Also, I'd make this "off switch" something that requires thought, therefore berserked characters can't use it. THe reason is that when you're berserked you're only worried about killing your enemy.

I like the idea, fighting normal monsters in the range of a their characters cr would probably be a sinch especialy with a fighter or barb with maxed out strength(they prob wouldn't miss by to much) However, the dm screen is a handy tool and oops, look, you just tried to hit my 20th level duelist, with 84 AC bye bye :>P, I wouldn't give it a standard value but a +3 to +6 bonus added to the calcluation of the weapon(+6 would be going epic, of course)

I thought about that, but I couldn't really find a sweet spot for a market price modifier. I welcome the suggestion though.

Cool idea, although how about something more like this...

Bloodlust
This enhancement allows your melee weapon to damage a creature even when it misses. If during your attack you miss, you calculate damage without any bonuses except the magic enhancement, and evenly divide it between the wielder and the opponent. This enhancement only affects the base damage of the weapon and magic enhancement, but not any other bonuses named or unnamed. (No feats, Str, or spells, etc...)
Market Value +3 or so?

Fig6 (Str 18 (+4)) attacks Ogre with greatsword +2, Bloodlust. First attacks hits for 2d6+8. The second attack misses and drains 1d6+2 from Fig6 and does 1d6+2 damage to the Ogre.

Fig6 (Str 18 (+4), Power attack -6 to hit/+6 to damage) attacks Ogre with Greatsword +2, bloodlust. First attack hits for 2d6+14. the second attack misses and drains 1d6+2 from the wielder and does 1d6+2 damage to the Ogre.

The reasoning is straight-forward; the sword is mad because it likes hurting people, and your incompetence made it miss out on tasting the enemy's blood. Shame on you.

I can just see an intelligent sword talking in the middle of the battle. "Ok, idiot you better hit it the next time or you know what's gonna happen, mwahahah."

Cool idea. Just looked at this thread, seems you've already worked out most of the glitches. And I'm not pricing genius, so I don't really have much to offer in the way of advice, rules-wise.

One question, though: If a group plays nat1=-10, which effect do they apply? the one that activates on a natural 1, or the one that activates on a normal miss?

Also, consider a Wrathful Healing weapon. Only the damage dealt directly by the weapon is returned as healing hit points, and even then, only half that damage. Other enhancements don't add on to it. Even if you have a wrathful healing greatsword (2d6/x2) the best healing you could get would be 4d6 direct weapon damage on a crit, which will only net you a maximum of 12 hit points in return. Miss your next couple of attacks by too much, and it hurts.
I thought it was base physical damage, like 2d6+STR+Enhancement? Basically whatever damage gets multiplied on a critical hit. Obviously extra energy damage and sneak attack and such need not apply.

As for the weapon property, how about make it controllable, but only on a per-round basis (including AOOs), and with a stiffer penalty. Say 1d6 or even 1d8 per point missed? I wouldn't price it too high, as it has the potential to be a serious suicide-pact type of thing. Maybe 40k?
