Evil casters using [good] spells ?

Are there any problems with this?
I can see problems with good people using [evil] spells, and no good PC has tried it.
but does evil hold to the same line? can/will dark gods grant [good] spells?

(I have evil PCs in hell, trying to use Align weapon [good] and summoning lantern archerons)
are these actually good acts?

There is no restriction except for clerics. Evil clerics cannot use [Good] spells. Good clerics cannot use [Evil] spells. Evil non-clerics can freely use [Good] spells if they have them.

There is a restriction specifically on clerics. From the SRD under "Cleric":

Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells: A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to his own or his deity’s (if he has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaos, evil, good, and law descriptors in their spell descriptions.

IIRC, evil clerics can't cast [Good] spells, but other evil casters have no such restrictions.

I'd say that they are good acts (as long as they are not used for evil purposes), but regularly performing good acts and evil acts still leaves you evil. To get to neutral or good, you need to lay of the evil. :D

Using an [evil] spell is always an evil act, but I wouldn't say that using a [good] spell is always a good act.

The difference being that the use of an [evil] spell leaves a taint which actually causes further evil in the world, even if you only use it to light a fire or something. A [good] spell doesn't leave a 'good' taint.

Apparently evil clerics cannot cast good spells... but for anyone else good spells are fair game.

Depends on why they do it. If they do it selfishly and for personal gain, no, they're not good acts.

I can do a number of "good" acts in the cause of evil. If the end result (or even the intended end result) is not good, then the acts aren't good either. It's all about intent. In fact, evil people cast good spells quite frequently. They're more selfish, after all. It's important to kill off or at least intimidate the other evil beings, after all.

Actually, I'd disagree - using a [Good] spell does leave a [Good] taint.

However, just as you can cast [Evil] spells for good reasons, you can cast [Good] spells for evil reasons.

Is there a rules quote for that? I've never seen one.

Thanks folks :)
so can this be avoided by making scrolls or a wand of Align weapon, and hand it to the UMD rogue?
Buying them, yes, making them, no. You can't make a scroll of a [Good] spell if you can't cast that [Good] spell. I could be confused about what you're asking though.
