Evil or just.........mostly evil?

The most funny point for me is that nobody short of constructs made of metal or stone, should be able to sink in quicksand (or lava) more than hip deep. The difference in density between sand and human flesh is just to high. :D
Perhaps made of stone counts for dwarves ? :p

I'll answer your question after you answer my earlier question.

Would you have ruled that it was an evil act for the Dwarf to grab her legs when she stood on him because he might drag her under?

I refuse to engage in another straw man arguement with you.

The mechanics allow for cooperative play. They do not force it.

The mechanics actually re-enforce cooperative play by use of group awards instead of individual ones.

The award system is transparant to PC decision making. The players might know about the award system, but the PCs should not.

True enough but the actions appear to be based on metagaming. You yourself pointed that out, well you didn't use the metagame word but the reference was to player opinions and actions influencing how PC behave.

Quicksand is not as dangerous as depicted in many movies. As quicksand is rarely more than a few feet deep, there is usually little danger of sinking below the surface. Furthermore, even when the quicksand is deep enough, deliberate effort is required to sink below the surface. Quicksand is typically denser than the human body, meaning that a body is much more buoyant in quicksand than in water. Thus, the body will float quite easily in quicksand.

You seem to have forgotten that we are dealing with fantasy quicksand rather than real world quicksand.

Fantasy quicksand is detailed on page 88 of the DMG and variants are in the Book of Challenges.

What I find most astonishing is the OP's insistence that she does not know how to RP a CN char - when the given example is pretty much just that.

KD - There's a little bit of unfairness in your example in that it is a basic impulse for someone drowning to grab at something and desperately pull. It is not a basic impluse for someone to step on someone else; that is in this case a reasoned, conscious decision.

Yes, it was a decision, not an instinct. I gave it a few seconds of thought and so I assume my character did as well.

So, has your bard taken charge/left the group/resigned to her fate?

Remember:

Alignment isn't about what you just did. It's about what you are capable of. As others have pointed out, you said your character seems to be a poster-child for the neutral alignment.

We don't play again until this Saturday. I like the players, it just seems that characters in our situation would be more incilned to work together to survive and not be, for lack of a better word...."stupid" about things.
