Excel/Word 2002 label making

So I am going to have to make new folder labels for the 2005 folders. I don't know how many, but doing them by hand is out of the question.

The problem is, I have no idea if anyone in the company has already got a file setup to make the job reasonable instead of a crushing disaster waiting to happen. They did last year since I have the leftover and unused Avery 8160 labels. My supervisor simply says, "the computer guy can get it" but if you read my post in the Customer Service thread in the Off Topic area, you'll learn that my supervisor also didn't know how to use a floppy disc.

So, I believe I have a slightly less time consuming manner to finish this task, cutting and pasting individual info from floppy disc files into a single spreadsheet/word file. Yes, you can see this is going to possible drive me crazy.

So, I'm wondering if any experts out there can help me figure out if I should cut and paste into Word 2002 or Excel 2002, so that I can then merge the info to print out Avery labels.

This has twisted my mind enough I can't come up with the answer myself.

Depending on which version of Word...

Tools pull-down menu
select Envelopes and Labels
choose Label tab
choose options
choose 8160 Avery - hit ok
choose new document
fill in data into table cells
print (usually the label default is the manual feed tray)

Or you could visit www.Avery.com and download the plug-in (for MSWord) for Avery labeling products.

Some new printers (like my Hewlett-Packard PSC 1350) have problem with old label sheets. The manual suggest discarding any Avery products that are two years old and older.

I found templates at microsofts site, which I think mentioned Avery, but I didn't make the jump to actually check out their site directly. In order to download the MS template I'd have to install ActiveX or something and I'm not sure if they want a temp employee installing new stuff on their machines. But I suppose I can check out some examples, grab them on a floppy and see how that goes.
