Exploring the Hase-Suna Complex (Manzanita judging) [Concluded]

[sblock=Lokin and Kyle]While Payne is fiddling with the lock, a swarm of rats comes up the hall from the right, past the kitchen. One their initiative, they move into Lokin's space and bite him for 2 HP. You may both act this round. Everyone else is in the room and doesn't notice the rats.[/sblock]

Damn it!

Rats...I hate rats! Hard to hit, all creepy and crawly anyone have any oil? Lets burn these bastards out!

With that Zurd grabs a nearby barrel or box (that he can lift and hopefully heavy enough damage the buggers!), hefting it over head and moves toward the rat swarm. When he gets close he will just throw it (targeting a 5' square in the middle of the swarm) in the area of the swarm hoping to hit as many as possible. To hit = 10 Damage is whatever you come up with I have no idea what to do there.

[sblock] What I am hoping here Orsal is to use the target a square AC5 attack to throw the box/barrel and hit as many as possible. I took out a -4 already for an improvized weapon if there are more penalties then you'll have to take them out for me from my final above. Zurd does not know about improvised weps and such so I think its the most logical thing. Trying to swing at them seems silly and futile to me. Since he has a 10 INT like me I think its his most probable COA.

Also, Payne I made that post about...well, late and really didn't make it to be funny but now I read it - well it is LOL! Good catch! [/sblock]

Kol turns and lets out a thunderous roar. Air ripples outward from his mouth as visible force is emitted from the shout. However the thunderous energy is misdirected and goes over and past the swarm

OOC: Energy Ray-Sonic Attack Roll is 10 probably missing even on a ranged touch attack.

This map is how I'm picturing things. Nobody mentioned moving the chests or other containers, so I'm assuming all action and conversation around them is happening far from the door, and you'll have to move to get to the corridor where Lokin and Kyle and the rats are.

Initiatives:
Zurd 19
rats 18*
Kyle 14*
Lokin 13*
Kol 12
Kongu 11
Payne 9
Kurg 7

* can act in surprise round. The rats' action was to swarm around Lokin and bite him.
Lokin is nauseated at having the rats all around him; if he wants to take more than a move action this round, he must make a DC 12 Fortitude save. (Sorry, I forgot to mention this earlier.)

Kyle, Lokin, and Zurd all get to act before the rats' next turn. Zurd grabs a crate and approaches the door; I'll let him reconsider throwing once he sees where the rats are in relation to his allies.

[sblock] Thanks Orsal, I really didn't realize they were outside the room. I thought they were inside but near the door watching out. I'll just have Zurd drop the box since he can't throw through his buddies. [/sblock]

Zurd carries the box about 1/2 way to the over to the doorway to attack the rats and realizes that his throw is impossible.

Lokin, bring them in here out of the hall where we have room to engage!

Zurd continues to run toward the door and his comrades on his turn he takes a position far enough away for his safety but close enough to cast his color spray spell trying to get as many rats in the area of effect as possible. He is hoping to stun a good majority of them so they can just be stomped while stunned rather than fought swarming around.

With a short series to gestures and incantations a colorful rainbow shoots out from Zurd's hand toward the rats out to about 15'

[sblock] Zurd has only used the spell once on a sheep when he and Lokin were practicing it so he does not know that rats, as vermin, are immune to mind effecting spells. This is one of those most logical choice things player-vs-character knowledge. If I did something else I'd feel like a meta-ranger. I hate to screw the group out of an attack but it is I think what he would do. It is his only area effect or mass casualty producing spell. [/sblock]

Lokin attempts the attack he wanted to make before, but finds himself gagging and unable to make an effective swing. Hearing Zurd speak, he decides to retreat back into the room to avoid bring the swarm into a larger area and hopefully disperse them a bit.

[sblock=OOC]Fortitude Save: 10[/sblock]

Kyle (NPCed) grabs his rolling pin and tries, unsuccessfully, to chase some rats away.

Lokin, nauseated, finds himself unable to fight, so he withdraws into the room.

Zurd grabs a box (move action) and starts to move toward the door (move action). He won't be able to cast his spell this round.

The rats now swarm around Kyle, who takes 3 HP damage. The dwarf handles the nausea better than Lokin, but his next swing of the rolling pin has no measurable effect.

Lokin again... Insert action here.

Kol's sonic burst fails to affect the rats.

Kongu draws her sword, but stands behind Lokin. "Rats? They shouldn't be as tough as lizardmen."

...then Payne, Kurg, Zurd

Lokin attempts to compose himself, then re-enters the melee and to protect the wounded priest. He swings his blade into the heart of the swarm, trying to catch a few vermin on its edge.

If he falls, we're right back where we were before.

[sblock=OOC]Attack: 10, Damage: 11[/sblock]
