So far nobody has been able to diminish the swarm perceptibly. The rats are still swarming around Kyle, in the hallway outside the door. The map coded below is as I see things; Kol will move out to the hall to join the melee after the rats' turn.
Zurd's spell does affect the swarm
(according to the SRD a rat swarm does have Int 2); it also affects Kyle
(who has Int 10). Will saves: rats 11, Kyle 10. Kyle is now unconscious, blinded and stunned. Fortunately, the rats aren't in great shape either; for the next couple of rounds you all find them easier to hit. In fact, that's all the help Kol needs to hit -- while it becomes clear that slashing isn't the easiest thing to do against a swarm, he does manage to kill a few of the rats without hurting Kyle. Lokin finds a similar result on his next swing (
attack 17, damage 10 -- I hope you don't mind my speeding things up by assuming you're still doing the same thing.) Kongu runs out the door, steps over Kyle (while the rats are unable to hurt her) and swings her sword from the other side; she too manages to kill a few, although not as many as if she had a club.
Most of the rats are now dead; a few still live, blinded and stunned, ready to be finished off.
