Fast Intimidation?

First Post
I'm playing a fighter with a high Charisma - and that screams "Take Intimidate!". So I am.

Thing is, the basic Intimidate rules are pretty useless. Use my action to (possibly) make one opponent shaken for one round - I'd rather hit him with a big sharp object.

Does anyone know of a feat that makes Intimidating people quicker? I'd prefer a swift action, although a standard action that lasts a long time may work as well. I'm looking for things based off an Intimidate check rather than an actual Will save since I'll have a much better chance of getting it through.

There is a feat called Bloodsoaked Intimidate from Champions Of Ruin (FR book) that allows you to "roll Intimidate as a swift action when you collect a trophy". It also requires the Snatch Trophy feat (from the same book), which allows you to collect a trophy from a fallen foe as an immediate action. Not sure exactly what the game effects of that are, as I don't have the book with me ATM and am just going by what it says on my list, but it might be worth checking out if you have access to that book. Not sure if it would be worth 2 feats to get Intimidate as a swift action, though. :)

Edit: Also, I just saw the Intimidating Strike (from Player's Handbook II) that allows you to "use Intimidate check with attack to make opponent shaken." Sounds like you might like that one more.

Maybe house rule in the method M&M uses, where you can Intimidate as a move action, taking a -5 to your check to do so?

There is a great feat in PHB2 (I forge the name atm, maybe Intimidating Strike?) that basically allows you to intimidate someone when you this them... I forget the specifics, but I beleive it is a Standard Action to attack them (so only 1 attack), if you hit you make an Intimidate check and if that is successful they are shaken for.... I beleive it is for the rest of the encounter, if not then it is 1 minute. I do know it was longer than 1 round. My friend has it in a campaign I am playing in, and I remember the reason he took it was because (a) he can attack and intimdate at the same time and (b) it lasts longer than 1 round.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but hope it helps.

Intimidating Strike is a very interesting feat. Are there any other feats that somehow use Intimidate or other subjugating effects?

I ask because I am designing a Slaver PRC (or more correctly, re-conceiving the Thayan Slaver PRC - making it more easily accessible to different classes than just rogues, and re-evaluating some of its abilities to suit the concept).

If this is considered a thread hijack, then I will remove the post and start a new thread, but it did seem to expound on the current thread topic.

Yup - PHB II (pg 79) Intimidating Strike. Prerequisite Intimidate 4 ranks.

Similar to Power Attack - subtract from your attack roll (limited by BAB), if you hit then can add this to an immediate Intimadate roll with the result that the foe is shaken for entire encounter.

I think this does what you want to accomplish in a pretty decent manner.

Get some buddies. Fear effects stack, so if you make someone shaken, then your buddy also passes an intimidate check, the foe is now frightened, and so on. A couple of men-at-arms who use intimidate checks and aid-another checks can be pretty effective.

Here's the relevant section from the SRD:

Spells, magic items, and certain monsters can affect characters with fear. If a fear effect allows a saving throw, it is a Will save (DC 10 + ½ fearsome creature’s racial HD + creature’s Cha modifier; the exact DC is given in the creature’s descriptive text). All fear attacks are mind-affecting fear effects. A failed roll usually means that the character is shaken, frightened, or panicked.

Fear effects are cumulative. A shaken character who is made shaken again becomes frightened, and a shaken character who is made frightened becomes panicked instead. A frightened character who is made shaken or frightened becomes panicked instead.

Sure it's not a quicker use of Intimidate, but in ToB, there's a new use of Intimidate, and it could be a great use for your Charisma Fighter, or a Knight (PH2), as well as the Martial Adepts for the book.
