favorite fantasy-based cartoons?

So there have been lots of threads about fantasy-setting books. How about some favorite fantasy-based cartoons that you have liked?

* Thundercats (strong fantasy setting)
* Pirates of Dark Water (strong fantasy setting and based on a "quest")
* The Adventures of Conan the Barbarian (I can't recall the exact name of this cartoon series though, the one where they were getting the metal to banish set and the lizard people, etc.) (strong fantasy setting and based on a quest)
* Gargoyles (strong fantasy setting)
* Sailor moon (kind of liked the first main story line.. never really go interested in the series beyond that though)
* Jackie Chan Adventures (okay, not as strong in this catagory as the others, I just enjoy it and enough of the fantasy element is there to make me think of it as an rpg stroyline ;) )

I'm sure there are plenty others though.

What are ones that you like/liked a lot? (that you remember anyway).

Just curious. (may even clue me in on ones I've been missing out on that I should try and rent an episode or two on video/dvd , etc...)

Gargoyles was fantastic! I'd love for it to be re-run on Cartoon Network.

I also enjoyed Conan and Dark Water, but Gargoyles is one of my two favorite cartoons of all time (along with Batman: The Animated Series).

Anime--
Record of Lodoss War
Heroic Legend of Arslan
Orphen
Slayers
Sorcerer Hunters

Traditional Animation--TV
Thundaar the Barbarian
Blackstar
Dungeons and Dragons
Shazzan

And with the ones you mentioned... that pretty much sums up fantasy animated TV. :/ Not too much after that. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs almost qualifies. I've never seen any of the recent Disney stuff, like the TV Aladdin.

Conan the Adventurer, I believe.

A lot of cartoons used fantasy elements, depending on how loosely you define it. Both He-Man and She-Ra had a lot of swords, magic, dragons and other fantastic creatures, but also high-tech weapons and vehicles.

Visionaries also did that, and that cartoon totally rocked. There were 2 sides, the Spectral Knights and the Darklords, and the mighty Merklynn, who seemed to be pretty neutral. Each of the Knights had totem animals, and either a vehicle or a special power that they activated with a spell.

Actually, I remember a lot of cartoons that had super-powerful swords besides He-Man and Thundercats. There was Galtar and the Golden Lance, which had a two-bladed sword that could be separated into 2 long swords (the "Golden Lance"). That one also involved a quest.

There's a pretty old one that I'd once searched all over for, but copies on VHS were either rare or non-existent. It was called Blackstarr, and starred John Blackstarr, an astronaut from Earth who had fallen into some fantastic world. He had half of a super-powerful sword, and the bad guy had the other half. I think it was the "Power Sword" and the "Star Sword" which combined to form the "Power Star." (I could be totally misremembering this stuff, but as a kid it sounded cool.) His allies were a shapeshifter and a sorceress, and it was by Filmation, so the animation and sound effects had a lot in common with the original He-Man series and the old Flash Gordon one. Those cartoons just rocked.

I'm sure there are a ton of others that I liked, too, and that doesn't even include fantasy anime.

Curious you say that, because the guy wrot wrote the scripts for the series is a regular poster here, jonrog1, and he has two wonderful story hours running in the story hour forum...

Add Xyber-9 to the list (more Dragonstar than DnD but is all Fantasy nonetheless)

oh and another Gargoyles fan here

also anyone remember The Mighty Mitor? (Caveman kid who could transform into a superhero via use of a magic club and had a pet dinosaur that transformed into a Dragon)

and does Pokemon and its Clones count? (saw an episode of Mon Colle Knights which had Sahuagin-like creatures riding (surfing?) on the backs of Manta rays - I'm going to use that in a game:))

Oh and Felix the Cat - gee I'm getting all nostalgic here:D

I love animated shows. On a self concious note, my favorite "fantasy" flavored cartoon.... Mighty Max. It had everything, big guy - smart guy / bird - chosen one.... What's not to like?
