Favoured Soul vs. Cleric

First Post
I've recently run across those Initiate feats. Most of them list "xth Cleric lvl." as a prerequisite.
What about Favored Souls? Do they count as clerics for this purpose? I mean they are already barred from taking any divine feats due to their inability to turn/rebuke, neither are they granted acces to domains (no signature spells either).

If you need cleric levels, then you need cleric levels.

Favored Souls just happen to cast cleric spells, otherwise they are absolutely no clerics.

Don't forget that Favored Souls and Sorcerers both use Charisma for spellcasting...playing a Favored Soul/Sorcerer requires less stretching of ability scores than a Cleric/Wizard.

True, but you don't need Wisdom as much as Charisma. 19 Charisma will let you cast any Favored Soul or Sorcerer spell, while Wisdom just makes FS spells harder to resist. Of course, I'd be surprised if anyone managed to play a multiclass character like that long enough that they'd even be able to cast level 9 spells from each class. In any event, Favored Soul/Sorcerer requires fewer points into ability scores to make a decent character than Cleric/Wizard.

Favored Souls are very demanding, when it comes to attributes, I have noticed (currently playing one with decent stats in everything but Wisdom). Being more of a fighty class (with weapon focus/specialization for example), at least as I see it, you want decent physical attributes and at least good Charisma. And Int and Wis are not too bad to have either. Though, yes, you don't really need a high Wisdom, if you focus on spells, which do not have a save (healing, buffing, utility, that is).

Ask your DM to let Favoured Soul levels count as cleric levels. Maybe At -2, so cleric level 3 means favoured soul level 5 or something.

I'd change the favoured soul, anyway, so two of its known spells are from two selected domains.

Sidetrack:

I'm also pondering to allow Favored Souls to pick from the domain spells to add some deity-specific flavor. No domain abilities, of course, tho, I would probably allow them to pick up a feat, which grants them one domain ability from a domain of their deity's portfolio.

I would even go so far to allow them to choose any spell listed on one of the deity's domains. Since they still have to learn them and do not get access to them all, anyways, and many are simply redundant, because they are cleric spells in the first place, that doesn't seem overpowering to me.

Clearly people don't like FS as written.
I do like the FS as written. Nonetheless, there are a couple of tweaks that would make the class even better.

Personally, I just dislike most PrCs that require explicit class levels.

The Initiates of X aren't PrC's, they're feats. They just didn't into account the existance of other base classes, which weren't in the sourcebook the feats were in. They wanted to exclude certain classes for the initiate feats, since they weren't fitting.

For example, an initiate of bane shouldn't work with ranger, you need cleric for that one. Saying "divine caster level 3" or something would let you include rangers, and even druids. They just didn't take into account a class that is like clerics in many ways. It's easy to fix.
