Female Mini's

Shadowdancer,
this one isn't too bad :Diedra Darkwillow
she's kinda "waify" but has a fairly moderate hair cut, granted there are many many more with long, non-combat style hair, but it is a step in the right direction.

And she's using a throwing dagger. That's an excellent choice. Thanks for pointing it out.

sure Shadowdancer, you're welcome.

glad I picked a good one!!

Another nice thing about the Reaper minis is that there is a Lot of detail sculpted on that the brush just picks right up on when you ppaint them and even if you don't paint them they look great.

I've had similar complaints about the most commonly found miniatures, and some of these lines people are pointing out are a nice change.

Only thing - what is up with reaper that all the thiefs are carrying around swords almost as tall as them?

Oh and I love the female samurai!

I just started working on that very figure earlier today -- it's a nice one indeed, and the sculptor is one of my favorites. One of the nice touches is that she's got a second throwing knife strapped to her leg right next to the empty sheath belonging to the knife in her hand.

Reaper minis too expensive... now I've heard it all. Exactly on what do you base this? Too expensive compared to what?

I've found Reaper minis to be not only excellently sculpted, varied and interesting; but dirt cheap.

Could not agree more - one of the best mini companies out there and BY FAR the most reasonably priced. Never mind the fact they are an excellent bunch of guys...

Someone else mentioned throwing some kneadatite on a figure to get what you want. This is an excellent suggestion, and if you are a good painter it's easier than you might think.

I guess I'm a Reaper fan boy..
There are lots of Rogues that are not carrying big swords..
Tara the Silent
Eli Quick Night
Michelle Dancing Blades

I have this one painted in a color scheme like "Robin" and he is the Paladin's sidekick IMC. heheKurff the Swift

Torin the Stealthy

As this line grows they get better and better:
Check out "the greens" to see some of the cool stuff coming out later

Granted there is Plenty of Cheesecake and Beefcake but a lot of the figs show some thought, and the newer figs coming out have backpacks, bedrolls, flasks, etc.
And Hopefully they will continue to make more
"realistic fantasy"(?!) figures

Cool. Thanks. The first bard is one of the ones I use now, actually.
Reaper will send you a catalog. I used to use that as ammo at the local store when ordering before they got really big into stocking the line.

But...

A certain physical imagry has always been a part of fantasy, because it is also a part of what the human psyche desires of envisions as heroic.

I personally find Sandra Garrity's minis a bit bland, lacking in dynamic energy.

But she's popular with a certain crowd.

And I like my men to have the same dynamic, over the top energy to them as my women. It is fantasy after all.

But then, my favorite genre is Super Heroes, followed by fantasy, so it's a given that I go in for strong visuals with a lot of energy.

Although given that genre preference, I could certainly go for a few more modern minis without guns and in energetic poses.

Thanks again, all. I think it's a matter of personal taste. Sometimes I like to play a really fantasical woman with the big chest and the chainmail bikinis. But other times, I like to play a more drab looking character who looks more "real". But you're right, it does all fit into the human psyche's vision of what heroic is. :)

Thanks

If reaper is expensive, I want to know what it is being compared to. They are certainly my favorite DnD mini company at the moment. But if someone knows of a cheaper more prolific company then I would like to know about them.
