Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Dude, you should be impressed. With only 20 posts to your credit, you managed to kick off one of the longest threads on EN World. Well done you sir. And, as an added bonus, a thread that I don't think saw a single Mod involvement. At least, not to my knowledge. That's impressive.

Hats off to my honorable opponents in this discussion. You guys rock.

I of course cannot claim credit for these posts in this thread,
it was the nature of the topic no doubt that was the cause.

It has been a very lively and interesting set of posts and discussions.

At the moment a group of us are playing another version of the chamberlain scenario - under Manbearcat's supervision. I thought we were supposed to be reporting back to this thread, in which case it can't be dead yet.

Haven't had much time as of late to post. At some point I'll get around to the analysis of the 3.x DMGing section and how it pertains to this conversation. Since it requires little of me and will provide some insight into (i) my GMing style and (ii) where some dissonance is assuredly occurring, I'm going to link to this RPG.net review of Dungeon World. I would say the way I run 4e (and the way I feel it particularly hums) is very much akin to a cross between a D&D fantasy hack of MHRP and Dungeon World with greater tactical overhead/depth with respect to combat. The ruleset is a natural fit for such play, IME. "Overview 3: Stuff that may be less familiar" is the particularly poignant section as I fall under the GMs that have been using this technique for over a decade and as such, as he notes, "For some of you, that’s nothing new, and that’s why I said “may be less familiar” up above."
