4e and 5e are tied for my davorite editions of D&D so I would choose 5e if I couldn't play a 4e game. However, there isn't an edition of D&D I wouldn't play. After 4e and 5e I play probably choose in this order.

Basic
1e
2e
0e
3e
3.5

I have chosen to do a 4.5 Edition myself where I am mixing the strategic combat of 4th Edition with the roleplaying focus of 5th edition, to create something which is more in line with my group's need.

You've somehow managed to get tickets to VaporCon, and arrived ready to play some D&D!

Unfortunately, all the 4th edition games are filled up, because it's just so popular. There are, however, openings for games that use the rules to these other editions: 0e, Basic (B/X & BECMI), AD&D 1, AD&D 2, 3E, 3.5E, and 5E.

Which game do you join?

Basic or possibly oD&D. I'm expecting a game very unlike 4e - but a game that will be awesome in its own right doing well what it does well.

As I've said in the past, D&D has dungeons design (tight gritty resource management dungeon crawling, as seen in most of the old school crawls) and dragons design (larger than life high action pulp, as seen in Dragonlance and most adventure paths).

4e is awesome at dragons games (and better IMO for playing Pathfinder APs than Pathfinder itself is - including less prep time even including translating the system used). It sucks at dungeons games. Basic is focussed on Dungeons design.

That is quite a nice definition.
