We are also about to have one of our own put down... a stray tom we adopted seven years ago who has survived one major brain infection two years ago, but who is not recovering this time from a relapse...
 

I never met Riley, but I know that what you're going through is tough.

There are a lot of ways a dogs life can end and being taken to be put to sleep by someone who truly loves them is among the best. I know that's probably cold comfort right now though and I'm sorry for your loss.
 




I still remember when I spent the night at Clays. Riley spent most of the night at the foot of the bed. I guess it was his job to guard the guest. Great dog, sad news.
 

Oh damn, Mark. I am so sorry. Riley was a fine dog, and I was very fond of him. I had no idea he was ailing. The last time I saw him, when Jo shooed him off thinking he going to knock me down? I was leaning on him, not him on me. He will be missed.
