Forked Thread: Scotley's Tomb of Horrors 3.5 Continued

"Be careful with that Grackle. It radiates very strong transmutation magic. We wouldn't you to be turned into a bunny. The sarcophagus contains sources of both transmutation and abjuration magic." Zorn explains to his comrades.

"Transmutation magic can be beneficial or harmful. It can make someone stronger, faster, smarter, turn them into a dragon, or it can turn them into a rodent, insect, rock, or anything else."

Zorn will then cautiously approach the sarcophagus.

Logan Lightbringer

Logan quietly shudders as Zorn disregards his warning and approaches the sarcophagus. "You all heard my warning, I presume. Be it upon all of our heads, then!"

"Well what about the crown down there?" Ballista steps over to the edge of the new hole, letting her eye adjust to the blackness inside. "Should we grab that too?"

The echos of Logan's warning still hanging in the air, Zorn approaches the sarcophagus. Opening the lid reveals the sarcophagus contains the parts of a mummy with wrappings partially undone and tattered, and a huge amethyst just
barely visible between the wrappings covering the head—the gem is lodged in one eye-socket and is the source of the transmutation magic. The abjuration magic is coming from under the wrappings of the middle finger of the left hand.

At the far end of the large room, Ballista can see the crown now about 8' down in a pit still resting on the cushion of the throne.

The 'trap-springer' seems to be confused by the multiple investigations going on at once as she is hesitating...

Harrison is looking about at the three doors wondering what kind af attck could come at them. he draws hos sword and redies his shield.

OOC: Zorn wasn't intending on opening the sarcophagus yet. He was going to walk around the perimeter of it and examine the markings.

Zorn notices the gem in the eye socket and what could be a ring under the wrappings of the mummy. He doesn't disturb the mummy or any if the contents.

"There is a magical gem in one of the eye sockets of the mummy and what could be a magical ring on one of the fingers." he reports.

Carefully replacing the lid, he will examine the surrounding walls, tables, etc for any possible clues to the identity of the mummy.

OOC: Since there was no harm in taking a peek I took a little liberty. Sorry.

Zorn finds the marking quite old and religious with some decidedly necromantic. The person here was obviously of high nobility, but not of any place Zorn or his companions recognize. A few of the markings seem to indicate that he was a religious figure of some sort, but almost certainly to a lower power rather than a known God.

"Logan, you may want to take a closer look at these symbols. Some are necromantic and there are references to this mummy being a high ranking noble of some sort and a religious figure. Perhaps he was a cleric like yourself to some long forgotten god or goddess. I should think this information would be beneficial to scholars."

Zorn then casts Comprehend Languages and walks around the room to read all the symbols and writing.

Logan Lightbringer

Logan will very cautiously have a closer look at the symbols, seeing whether he is able to recognize any of them.

Logan finally spots a row of symbols that causes the hair to rise on the back of his neck. In life and perhaps now in death this was a priest of Orcus, Demon Lord of the Undead.

Zorn's spell reveals many dark deeds attributed to this priest and his master. For he seems to be have been the servant of Acererak who's tomb this is. Together they ruled a distant land with terror. It goes on to say that the priest will continue to serve in death and protect the tomb of his master until a new era where in they will rise to rule once more. The writings suggest that the resting place of Acererak himself must be nearby.
